Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

Back Again. I bought the new F / E tank I showed. I've fitted it carefully above the Cylinder as shown in the 3rd diagram. STILL, the air won't rise up the expansion pipe. (I've checked it isn't blocked) I can hear lumps of air running round the DHW cylinder loop. It seems happy to...

Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

Back again. After lots of measuring, I find I can fit an alternative F / E tank...... In a much better place. Before I start cutting / swearing etc. Do you think this may go some way to improve things. Thanks All again. Ian.

Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

I've modified that now, the vent does now come up at least 500mm above water level. Tomorrow all being well, I'm going to remove the in-line isolating valve and see if that has any effect. If not, I might as a first attempt, build some kind of new mount to the right of the DHW header...

Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

Possibly. The airing cupboard is at one side of the house. (Right) DHW big header tank is in the centre. The CH header tank has been placed at the opposite end of the house. (Left). It would be very difficult to re-site it. I presume that is why it is where it is. I'm just...

Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

Where from though? The only place it can "suck" from is the F/E tank. It seems to be the same loop of water going round & round. It contains air. There must be some method of allowing it to rise out of the loop it's in. Thanks very much for all the advice up to now. As you've said & I...

Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

Yes, that's correct. Don't hit me, I didn't build the system but...... The pipework I have shown is the only fill / vent pipework. I understand where it SHOULD go, but that would be a floors up / decorating job. The Flow (& therefore the vent) pipework IS the first outlet from the...

Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

Yes, unfortunately, there are no dedicated fill / vent pipes running through the house to the "correct" place. It would be a mammoth task. I'm just trying to work out the best solution working with what I've got. Ian.

Open system vent pipe horizontal run.

Hi Again. The problem. Due to where stuff has been located for years...... Gravity hot water & pumped heating has been converted to fully pumped. After a recent drain / inhibitor / refill, I just can't seem to purge all the air from the DHW circuit. (Pump fast / slow etc. can hear air...

Neighbours have built over my boundary.

Thanks for the advice. I've been round and apparently the BIG deal is not what I'm having done, It's the fact that their access was blocked. Very briefly and the contractors didn't get their fingers out & move stuff. I'd got myself into a big flap about it all. Asked about ten...

Neighbours have built over my boundary.

Under the carport (between their poles & our poles) was what I presume, was the original double width brick wall. I believe years ago, it had some kind of blocks on top. Since I've lived there, they have block paved up to this wall. I flagged up to my side. Then the car port poles were...

Neighbours have built over my boundary.

Our houses are on a sloping street. I've always got on well with the neighbours. When we had "The Bloke" out to quote for the work he suggested that to stop water pouring off our large front onto the neighbours drive, it would be a good idea to have a lip at least 3" our side above the...

Neighbours have built over my boundary.

Long story short. My neighbours and I have our 2 drives between our houses. 20 years ago, they built a carport up to the boundary. They then informed me that they'd forgotten about guttering. That went in my side. No problem. I built a carport like theirs but 2 feet higher up as our...

bifold shower door stiff, what lubricant/grease?

Mr. Sheen or any silicone based polish. Spray in tracks, buff up. You won't believe the difference. Also works like magic on the hinges of my aluminium / nylon shower door. Trust me, it's almost free and you have nothing to lose! Ian.

toilet smell downstairs cloakroom, please HELP!

The pupose of all "U" bends is to fill with water. Under your sink, bottom of the toilet etc. The "U" fills with water and forms a seal so that smelly air from the drains doesn't blow into your house. If by your configuration of drains, the water is being sucked out of the downstairs loo by...

toilet smell downstairs cloakroom, please HELP!

I'm not a plumber but was just wondering...... When you flush the en-suite toilet, does it make the water in the downstairs (smelly) loo drop? Possibly, If flushing the upstairs loo makes the downstairs drain syphon / suck water into the drain, it may lower the level in the "U" bend just...
