    rendering/dashing the base of walls?

As long as the bellcast sits above the dpc there is no reason at all that what is then classed as the plinth can not be float finished rendered if the brickwork does not want to be seen.

    Planning permission (underground)?

Any new build house in the rural areas of Germany are constructed as a matter of course with a basement. You have to a degree solved your insulation problem in so far as keeping the room warm, but in doing so you have created the problem of also keeping it cool in the summer. Consider the fact that slates can heat up to around 70 degrees under a blazing sun, this heat is then transfered inside your...

    Plasterboard in the loft

Oh dear, Those spray systems cause more problems than they solve, sorry to say this but you have gone down the wrong path here, but too late to turn about now so do use foil back for a degree of heat reflection that should have been implemented with the use of kingspan insulation (between...

    gable end

Wig I think that you are under the impression that the gable end is built of two leafs of brickwork independant of each other as there is no cavity and thus no wall ties. This is not so, the walls will be constructed with a bond of brick that uses a header brick to tie the whole thing together...

Rendering around windows that have no reveals

Hi H.H. I am currently building a shed/garage in my garden in a single skin of blockwork and have three window frames that will be flush like yours, I can not see as there would be any problem at all in working to the methods suggested. Good luck. Legs.

Rendering around windows that have no reveals

I would consider that masticing the gap between wall and frame then overlapping a pvc stop bead on to the frame followed by a waterproof render would surfice. Finish with mastic between frame and bead...job done!

    multi finish vs board finish

I find board finish will dry uniformly and will not tear as much when dry trowelling and flatenning before water application with the splash brush. Multi seems to go off in patches while other areas are not ready for that final dry polish leaving shiny patches. Maybe different with British...
