    Back boiler

By 'ask advice' I mean seek the direction of a hetas engineer to discuss your options. I highly doubt any of them would merely give answers willy nilly but I'm sure they would be willing to advise you on your options and offer a quote. The biggest dangers are not being able to regulate...

    Back boiler

google sealed systems, explosive unvented cylinders etc. then make an opinion  its too hard to regulate a woodburner for hot water, unless its pellet fed. get in touch with a local HETAS engineer and ask advice. for your own sake, don't try this without proper guidance, you...

How do I get my gas hob installation certified

There are loopholes in the Gas Regulations that people can jump through with regards to 'signing off work' - I won't go into them through fear of giving people ideas. But if you enrol on a Gas NVQ at my College, I shall teach you all I know  With regards to the certificate. If you feel...

    Hot Water but no heating!

You are very welcome :D May I ask, if you were going to pay the Plumber for his time tomorrow, that you please donate at least 10% of that value to a charity, and tell me which charity you chose? Thanks I figured it best somebody benefits from the knowledge I give away...

    Hot Water but no heating!

I've just noticed... At least it backs up my idea!

    Hot Water but no heating!

If my memory serves me rightly... D would represent the appliance being in Domestic Hot Water mode... Go round your property and look for any taps that are turned on or leaking, and then work your way back to the boiler looking for a leaking hot water pipe... That might just suffice.

failrly new gas fire no longer lights

Indeedy! Any RGI worth their weight in salt cam identify EXACTLY why this isn't working; even if you were to plug those bottles in.... C'mon guys... Can you see? Haha! Albeit, I'd recommend an rgi went so it is tested properly (26[9] FAGS)

A sad reminder of why dodgy fitters and diyers are dangerous

I completely agree it's wrong and they fudged the regs, and that was the point I was making. I should have been more clear! I live in Manchester, and a close friend happens to be an Incident Investigator at National Grid... It WAS the cooker that was the source of ignition. But they are...

A sad reminder of why dodgy fitters and diyers are dangerous

Which is exactly the reason FSD's are now mandatory in Multi-Occupancy Dwellings :) It's more than likely one of the following; He was incompetent, had a rough weekend, and left a leak, which built up over night, the old lady entered the kitchen and flicked on a light switch and an...

Silly me. I meant plus travel! Haha

    Radiator Thermometer

What are you talking about? A - A Thermostatic Radiator Valve to control the temperature of the radiator? B - A device capable of telling you how hot a radiator is? C - A 'Thermal Imaging Camera' so you can visually SEE how hot it is/how cold it is, if that may be the case or...

    cp12 appliance not tested

I will revise the GSIUR1998 and confirm the Legal connetations of this. But for the meantime, I'd be saying its 'morally' wrong to not even look at the fire. I'm pretty sure there's an obligation to visually inspect every appliance in the property, as you may have to isolate a Pilot Light...

Old combi losing pressure - advice sought

Sorry for the late reply... Yes, more than likely. It's a 'water issue' anyway, so the majority of them would probably be interested. But, as mentioned, you can pick up the equipment for £50-ish and probably do it yourself. or find a reasonably priced Plumber. Goodluck.

    New boiler

I'd recommend investigating the existing problems first... Then I'd consider looking at my other options.

Vaillant ecotech plus 831 vs 837 for replacement combi

If the engineer who arrived has sized your property correctly, by calculating heat losses, sizes of rooms etc. to conclude a required heat for the property, then applied that to the output of the named appliances. Then yes, to some extent, they should heat your home. Then again, we're a lazy...

DIY wood stove costs £4000 !

I don't imagine they'd need to? The free-air-movement must be, well, astronomical

    need a quote

If the only reason your changing it is 'efficiency' then I'd wait until next year. I'd wait until the Christmas Rush is over, and Engineers are looking for a good earner. We're all slowly getting busier now, with breakdowns etc. so I'd imagine you'd be hard-pushed to get a competetive...

    New boiler installation

Again, if you 'know someone' then ballpark figures won't apply. I know plenty of RGI's who wouldn't attempt to install a bathroom suite, because their finishing isn't half as good as a time-served plumbers. I'm sure if you know a few RGI's yourself, the same must surely apply? RGI's in...
