    Basically take your shoe off. Support the rad with your knee. Ie hold it against the wall and whack it plenty of times on the top corners and bottom corners. Sometimes this clears sludge build up.

    It would buy it would start back up when cooled. Check the pump is working fine if so you need a engineer as there’s too much stuff that could create noises and a person who’s experienced needs to hear it. If the boilers not set right on the gas or a flue terminal has blown or worse this can...

    Nails for horizontal loads is best. Screws can snap easily when weight is put on them horizontally That’s what I’ve always done anyway. On anything big with weight! Shelves fine lol

    I would suspect 4x2 for walls is plenty. as for the base it depends on the span the joists are running. Just google floor joist span table and you’ll see it all.     Sounds like you mainly need more flow. Get your water tested by supplier and see what’s available then get someone in to give you an idea. Probably need a new main and new pipes running around the house
