    which type of plastic insert?

I'm fitting a 22mm-15mm reducing service/check valve after a RCM 3 negative head kit on a salamander pump. The reducing side of the valve has a strange sort of compression fitting that does not require an olive but the 15mm plastic pipe will need an insert. Does it matter which type on...

    victoria plumb

I was like you and had read a few of the bad reviews but went ahead and ordered from them anyway. The stuff that arrived was on time and all OK, I did have a problem with a damaged part later on that took 5-6 weeks to get a replacment for (despite it apparently being in stock) because their...

How to increase cold water pressure to electric shower

do I take it then that a pump between the tank and shower is not an option even with some sort of pressure regulator?

How to increase cold water pressure to electric shower

I believe he's tried 2 or 3 different showers at different outputs, any other options? I was wonedring whether he could pump the cold supply either directly to the shower or even a whole house pump on the cold side ? :?

How to increase cold water pressure to electric shower

My brother is having a problem whereby he does not have enough cold water pressure to run a decent electric shower. His water supply is via a borehole into a tank at upstairs level so only has approx. 8ft of head to the shower below. What is the best way to increase cold pressure to the...

Connecting Stove with back boiler into existing oil CH

I'm about to open up a chimney breast and have a multi fuel iron stove fitted in my 1920's house. I'm considering a stove with an intergral or clip-on back boiler to either heat hot water only or even to run some of the radiators to save using so much oil. On the floor directly above the...

    Repairing Tyrolean

I had my house and outbuildings re-rendered in Cullamix Tyrolean about 12 months ago and initially it looked ok but I've spotted a few hairline cracks appearing recently. I've next to no chance of getting the company/individual back to look at it so wondered if I could get myself a tyrolean gun...

ground source vs solar vs air to water

I take your point on the pullover however I'm still interested in other forms of heating. There would be an awful lot of work involved with re-plastering to insulate the exterior wall, I already have a coal fire and wood burning stove too but I like the idea of 'free' energy such as solar or...

ground source vs solar vs air to water

I'm not too fussed about the CO2 side of things, just the £250/month average heating bills which are only going to increase!! I have a solid wall house so not too easy to insulate without destroying some very nice old coving if I insulate the internal walls, loft has 15" insulation so not...

ground source vs solar vs air to water

Can anyone recommend a company to speak to about these types of installations, I'm looking to haet my home with something alternative to oil which has nearly doubled in cost this year. I realise that the initial expense is high but prepared to absorb that for long term annual savings. Thanks :)

Can I Use A Towel Rail With Just An Electric Element?

Measuring is easy, a vernier or depth gauge does the job. Can't really argue with your comments re: cost etc but I've seen plenty of these installations in rented properties, usually with a standard element rather than the thermostatic one.

Can I Use A Towel Rail With Just An Electric Element?

Kits are sold by B & Q & Screwfix, I've just bought some from CEF who also stock them the instructions say that you can fill them with water but you must underfill by approx 50mm to allow for expansion. The heating element below is typical one and it clearly states that it can be used as the...

Yes you can, B & Q and screwfix both sell them. You can get a thermostatic electric element from Screwfix too.

    Shower Pressure question

I'm barely getting any flow through the shower head, certainly not the 1ltr/min to trigger the pump. I know it's not an easy answer but how much do you think i'd need to raise the tank by as I'm thinking that perhaps I'll have to bite the bullet and by an ESP negative head pump to save the...

    Shower Pressure question

Re-routing in 22mm will be very difficult (Salamader had said 15mm was OK). So is it a new pump or raise the tank?

    Shower Pressure question

Hot supply to cylinder is via 22mm copper from cold tank in loft approx 10 ft above clinder base. Separate cold tank supply in 22mm direct to pump with full bore 22mm lever valve. Supply to pump from Warix Flange and withfull bore lever valve. Pump is 6" above base of hot cylinder...

    Shower Pressure question

OK so I've re-routed the pipework along the joists and still can't get enough flow to get the pump working even if I drop the shower hose down to bath height. So would the advice be to change the pump to a negative head one @ £300 + or to raise the cold water tanks which will take time and...

    Shower Pressure question

I thought I only needed an anti gravity loop on a negative head application. Fitted full bore valves to hot and cold supply, I guess I'll have to see if I can 'bend' the plastic pipe tighter to run along the ceiling joists, or perhaps as a final option lift the tanks. Would a negative head...
