    Water leaking from the boiler

I've got the infrared thermometer but that hasn't helped much. I think the leakage is somewhere in the concrete and as I've got 11mm thick underlay and fairly thick carpet, the damp isn't visible anywhere yet. I contacted my insurance company hoping they'll trace the leakage for me under "Trace...

    Best cordless hand drill.

Instead of creating a new thread, I thought I'll post my question here. I'm a DIY'er and I'm after a cordless drill/screwdriver. I've got SDS drill for any heavy duty drilling so this would be to deal with light drilling, screwdriving etc.. I'm on a fairly tight budget. The question is within my...

    Water leaking from the boiler

There are still no signs of leakage to be seen anywhere in the house. I've purchased the infrared temp reader from Maplin but it'll take me a lot of time to go through all the rooms (I don't know how the pipes are running in most of the house so scanning pretty much the whole floor space). My...

    Water leaking from the boiler

Maplin seems to have few but this is the only Infra-red one I could find. http://www.maplin.co.uk/infrared-thermometer-223005 Will it do the job for me? Thanks

    Water leaking from the boiler

Sorry I added a dot at the end which screwed up the link. Its http://www.hss.com/g/49420/Damp-Meter.html I can't seem to find any infrared ones. They all have the two needles at the end. Is there an infrared one you could recommend? I really want to sort this out this weekend. Thanks

    Water leaking from the boiler

I've got couple more questions with regards to this. Firstly, I've noticed there's one radiator upstairs which always has more air than any other radiator in the house. Could the leakage be around that radiator? Ceiling underneath that radiator/room isn't damp from anywhere. Secondly, I'm...

    Water leaking from the boiler

I look for a sign of damp at the ceiling every single day but there's no sign of dampness anywhere so I very much doubt the leakage is upstairs but I could be wrong. The theory plumber told me "not sure how correct that would be" that possibly the nail (from carpet fitters) is in the copper pipe...

    Water leaking from the boiler

Update: Boiler didn't lose any pressure at all while the valves were isolated but as soon as I turned the valves back to their original position, pressure dropped to 0.6bar. Bell thanks for helping me to eliminate the boiler. So now I know its not the boiler that's cause of this pressure drop...

    Water leaking from the boiler

Bell thanks for very clear instructions. I've pressurised the system to 2 bar and have turned off both valves. Would post back after about 6 hours.

    Water leaking from the boiler

Its Vaillant ecotech Plus 630. Ok I looked at the boiler and I can see three copper pipes coming out of it. Looking at the diagram/arrows I'm guessing one is inlet, then gas pipe and then outlet. So I should pressurise the system to say around 1.5 bar and then turn off both inlet and outlet...

    Water leaking from the boiler

Once again thanks for this really useful info. What infra red thermometer would you suggest? Both instruments? Do you mean I should also purchase a damp detector? If so is there one you've used or you could recommend? Thanks

    Water leaking from the boiler

Hi Tony, downstairs flooring is all concrete, the house was built in 84/85 and it seems like all the piping in the house is from that time. No I didn't change radiators apart from one in hallway. All radiator pipes are old. The only new pipes are those running between boiler which is...

    Water leaking from the boiler

Ok, I had the plumber in yesterday. We pulled out the carpet around the downstairs radiators but there's no sign of water leakage. He's reluctant to do the same upstairs because he's saying it won't help us much. He's suggested I should get a damp detector to help us find out the leakage. There...

I PAD 2 or other tablet

I would highly recommend BlackBerry PlayBook. Its a cracking tablet. I've got one for a while now and love it. When I'm at home wife hardly uses her laptop now because browsing is so much more convenient on the tablet. Also you download/copy a movie on it and just plug it straight into your TV...

    Water leaking from the boiler

Sorry if I sound a complete idiot now. Where would I find this pressure relief valve? By the way I forgot to add water disappears from the system whether its on or off. Not sure if that makes any difference.

    Bridging O2 modem/router with D-Link router

    Bridging O2 modem/router with D-Link router

Hi guys, I hope someone can guide me in the right direction. I've spent hours on this and I think I've done everything I could. I've got an O2 modem wireless router TG587n. It works well but upstairs I've got very weak wireless signal. I've got a D-Link DIR-615 wireless router which I want to...

    Water leaking from the boiler

Hi, I think my title might be misleading but I don't know how to best put it. Basically I got a new system boiler/hot water tank fitted almost a month ago. Then had new carpet fitted almost 3 weeks ago. Now for almost 2 weeks now I'm losing the water from the boiler. I'll fill it up to around...

    Double underlay for carpet

I'm going to have my carpet fitted later today. I've opted for Tredaire Dreamwalk underlay and Abingdon stain free carpet. Now my question is I've got quite a bit of laminate underlay which was removed from a room upstairs. I've two choices either throw is away or I'm thinking of laying it...
