    After Removing Artex from Walls...

Just got back from Wilkinsons where I was advised to buy basecoat wall coating. This is supposedly as good as Shellac, but at a fraction of the cost. I will be giving it a go shortly and will post my verdict about it later.

    people borrowing my wireless

The other thing not mentioned here is Warchalking or similar expressions. If you have an open wireless connection and anyone logs on to your internet access, you are legally responsible for the consequences of their actions. These offences are very hard to defend as the IP only has your...

Cat5e RJ45 surface mount on skirting or wall

I can vouch for all the advice you have been given... If you can, cut the ends off and use faceplate RJ45 sockets in each room, and at the other end, get a switched router and then plug you modem into the WAN port and the other RJ45 leads into the spare LAN ports. It will look neater. And...

Security: Should I ditch Norton for Virgin Media

I haven't read the full thread, but I will give my advice for free. I fix up and pass on computers through a site not related to this forum. many of the 'puters come to me 'cos they are shafted by software errors. Usually Norton Systemcare or such like. Norton Utilities is rubbish. In My...

    PC help PLEASE!!!!

I hope you have sorted your pc out by now. But, just in case you haven't... It sounds like one or more of your system files have become corrupted by the sudden shutdown. This usually happens when a pc has it's power cut during shutdown (writing data to files as the pc closes down running...

    Removing artex ....

Local council - Environmental Health BTW it ain't cheap!!! That's why I said, some of us don't bother, just use a face mask, gloves etc and lots of paper to catch the mess and bin it whilst it is wet. Use plenty of water to clean up as you go.

    After Removing Artex from Walls...

this has been mentioned on several posts, what is shellac or BIN? >edit< Found it at homebase, Romford. That stuff is expensive >edit< As we were washing the wall down with water, the polyfilla came away 'cos we were too heavy handed with the brushes and rags. The second layer...

    removing artex from my walls

been there done it too, and used chemicals AND steam stripper. The latter was cheaper and easier. Both ways are messy.

    Removing artex ....

Done both. Chemical solution is expensive circa 60 quid for a 18 by 12 room with 7'6 ceilings A steamer works. But is arm achingly tedious and very messy. Lots of paper on the fllor under where you are working and clear regularily. Skimming can work but YOU know the crappy artex is...

:D Have fun, after all it's DIY :) Just don't do it like me.... Think to myself, it's a radiator, with black ish liquid dripping out of it - I'll put it ouside my back door and lean it against the wall. I'll wash it down later and give it a lick of paint this afternoon. Continue to do...

    After Removing Artex from Walls...

:( Lost DIYer has a problem with a wall in the front room. The south facing (ish) front room wall has recently had a thick coat of artex and paint removed, back to existing plaster. The hollows and holes have been filled in, where required, and the entire wall has been washed down with a...

Laying a patio for the first time

Nah? Duh? The original garden soil level was about 20 inches above DPC. So, to end up at the right level of 5 inches below DPC (roughly 1 and a half bricks), I had to dig out a long way. As for the amount of backfill, hey, it was cheap and I didn't know any better (at the time). I had read up...

    Cuprinol Ducksback

I have used this over the weekend in the sprayable version. Verdict: It does the job, very well. But... if doing your panels and you want to avoid blow over onto your concret/wood posts, you will have to remove them from the posts and spray them elsewhere. If attention is not used...
