    How to calculate radiator size?

Many thanks again! Agile/Tony - particularly like your floor area rule of thumb as a double check for the calculations. :)

    How to calculate radiator size?

Thanks for all the advice. I also found this one via Google which seems more comprehensive than some of the online ones www.plumbnation.co.uk/heating-calculator/

    How to calculate radiator size?

Our kitchen, where the family spend most of their time, has two radiators but they are not generating enough heat to make the room warm enough in cold weather. Can anyone please recommend a website, or programme, which will help me calculate what size radiators we actually need? (Our boiler has...

Halstead Boiler problem - Any ideas?

Quite agree. And I could hardly believe it when the last guy actually got out a test meter and started measuring voltages at different points. A very different, and so much better, approach from the others!

Halstead Boiler problem - Any ideas?

Thought you might like to know what happened on this... Tony's (Agile) comment about "I don't think I ever saw any faulty PCB" made me think twice about going down the fixed price route and so I called another local heating engineer to come and have a look. He turned out to be a genius and very...

Halstead Boiler problem - Any ideas?

Thanks, but don't think ours is too overpowered and has run perfectly well for the last 7 years. What symptoms would a 'faulty NTC' give and is it easy to replace? (the two sensors have already been replaced recently). Despite the reservations above, can anyone recommend a good fixed price...

Halstead Boiler problem - Any ideas?

Thanks. It fires up again. Hadn't thought about going down the fixed price repair route, that might be a good idea as I suspect you are right about it needing a new PCB (pump also runs occasionally during day and night when time switch is off). Have done some googling and there seem to be a lot...

Halstead Boiler problem - Any ideas?

Hi We have a Halstead Boiler Eden SBX 30 (about 7 years old and worked generally ok over this period) which is playing up a bit. When heat starts being demanded it runs for about a minute and then trips. A few minutes later, it repeats this cycle, and so over a period of an hour or two it the...

Flood caused by shower pump flexible hose breaking - any advice?

Thanks. Will take the advice and get it organised. For reference, what is the best way to find a quality plumber (other than by recommendation)?

Flood caused by shower pump flexible hose breaking - any advice?

We have a water softener which sometimes does refresher cycles (?) at night. Will there be a problem if water turned off for a period?

Flood caused by shower pump flexible hose breaking - any advice?

Thanks for all the interesting comments - didn't realise what a heated debate my question would start! Will certainly get flexible pipes replaced with a good quality version. Interesting comment by dean about not putting stress on them. Our pump is half an inch off the ground as the original...

Flood caused by shower pump flexible hose breaking - any advice?

Woke up in the early hours of Sunday morning to hear our shower pump motor running... To cut a long story short, it transpired that one of the flexible hose connections had broken (between flexible pipe and screw connector) and so water was pouring in to the kitchen below (and had been doing so...

Chipped quartz kitchen worktop - Magicman?

SWMBO dropped something heavy on the kitchen worktop resulting in a chip about 20mm in diameter and 3mm deep. Googling turned up these people www.magicman.co.uk and so I just wondered if anyone had experienced their service and could comment on the standard of their repairs (which are not...

Central heating pump running at night...?

Thanks. OK, I'll try that but if it was the frost stat wouldn't it also fire up the boiler?

Central heating pump running at night...?

Problem persists. Last night was warm outside and the heating time-switch went off at 2230 as usual. However, the pump ran for a few minutes at 0015 and again at 0040 (and probably more times during the night but either I didn't notice or was asleep!). I could understand a sticky solenoid or...

Central heating pump running at night...?

Thanks. To answer both questions: Zone valves - both Drayton ZA5s fitted close to boiler. Frost protection - yes, I think so but it hasn't been that cold here (south coast) recently and, in any case, I first noticed this issue in the summer!
