    Double oven pipework disaster

Ouch! Just thinking this through - if I moved the plastic water pipes could I heat up those central heating bends and just push them into the wall (I.e. So they rotate)? There is movement on the pipes So it looks like they would go closer to the wall. Have measured and wouldn't need to do...

    Double oven pipework disaster

You make a very good point! On the right hand side of the oven unit the pipes are the required 550mm from the front of the cabinet but they move away from the wall by the left side by about 20mm. Top one is the return, middle is feed and bottom is gas. Edit: should add that they move about 4cm...

Our oven went pop yesterday, element failed again and Mrs was sick of it and always wanted a double built under oven so I ordered her one for delivery this morning. Pulled the old single oven out and discovered that there was pipework in the way. I have a 22mm ch feed, return and gas pipe...

    Too much heat

Came downstairs just now and found the the heat of the sun through my French doors has heated up and buckled my karndean floor. Can't I get something to put on the glass to stop this happening?

    Repairing rotten joist ends

I think I might go the sistering route, I'm assuming I'd need to jack the joists slightly to get the bowerbeams in and I'm a bit worried about the two concrete block partition walls that are currently sat directly on the floorboards. I'm planning to lift the floor in the next couple of weeks...

    Repairing rotten joist ends

What size bolts do you recommend and what sort of pattern? I'm assuming one at each end and one in the middle but are 3 really enough?

    Repairing rotten joist ends

I have a small office room on the ground floor and the ends of all the joists have been damaged by wet rot. I solved the water problem a couple of years ago but now I need to fix the damage to the joists. Having Google'd there look to be four options - replace the joists, sister them, use...

Fit over door canopy to EWI

When we had our house done with EWI we were told that if we intended to fix anything really heavy to the walls we should (carefully) cut the insulation away under the fixings and then fix wood to the walls (bringing it just below flush to the EWI). Then you cover over the top with render then...

    Problems with builder

If your home legal cover is like mine (more than) then it doesn't count as a claim if you call them up for advice, only if they are required to act for you. When I had issues with my window fitters they provided all the template documents and review them as part of the cover without registering...

    Bay window crack

The right hand side of the crack is wood (I'm assuming this is what the bay is made from) and the left hand side is brick. There is no evidence in the gap of any fixings that have been pulled out and the gap is very old (based on the state of the dead spiders) and the fact that there is old...

    Bay window crack

Should I get a structural report done first to confirm it's the windows causing the problem?

    Bay window crack

They are FENSA register but I haven't had the cert yet. They told me it takes 6 weeks and it was only done in mid December.

    Bay window crack

I had a big fight with the window company about this very issue. The upstairs bay was installed without the bay poles being connected to the head. I had to complain before the put this right. The downstairs bay has a steel corner post that runs through the cill to the brickwork below. They...

    Bay window crack

Just pulled some of the plaster off to find some really old caulk behind it and a gap I can get my finger through.

    Bay window crack

I have noticed a large crack in a bay and don't know how worried I should be. You can see daylight through it. The crack runs from the bottom of the sill to the floor. The ceiling below has a hairline crack in it. I had new upvc windows put in in July and they didn't install the support under...

    Adjusting tilt and turn window

I have tilt and turn units in my living room and am having a problem with them. The back edge (with the hinges on) doesn't seal against the frame so you get a slight breeze and noise coming through. The unit is against the frame on the front and top and bottoms and around the top hinge. The...

    Safe to put shed here?

I am putting in an 8x6 shed using a plastic base. I'd quite like to put it on a raised flower bed which is held back by a 3 brick high wall. The raised bed is because the house is on a hill and it forms part of the slope. The shed will be 1ft from the wall, will this be safe or will it collapse?
