    Electricity meter question

My meter cycles between two displays, one is the reading and the other looks like garbage. Any idea what the second is trying to show or if there is an issue with it?

    Blinds for shallow window

I think that might be the solution, it would give me just enough to fit a slim blind in.

    Blinds for shallow window

I've got some upvc windows in a timber frame extension and the reveals are really shallow, only just deep enough for the handle and I can't fit blinds in to the recess. I was looking at perfect fit blinds but one of my windows is 1633mm wide (glass measurement) so not suitable. I can't put one...

    Putting doors on this

I'm just wondering if it would make sense to divide it with two normal doors on the bottom and two smaller doors on the top, like a big wardrobe?

    Putting doors on this

Total height is 2.4m and the opening is 1.2m wide. I’d ideally like the doors to be full height but I’m starting to realise that would be quite expensive to do.

    Boiler error and noise

It's a small white plastic pipe, doesn't look much bigger than 15mm. It runs straight out the wall and turns 90 degrees to the drain and is lagged.

    Putting doors on this

This is supposed to be a large cupboard for storage but I've not been able to work out the best way to add doors, any ideas on how best to do it?

    Boiler error and noise

I don't think it was quite cold enough and there wasn't anything in the pipe when I checked. Unfortunately the drain has pretty much everything running in to it - from the left there is a pipe from the bath and one from the sink, from above the gutter downpipe (which has the bath, shower and...

    Boiler error and noise

There is an air break where the condensate pipe goes in to the drain, it terminates a couple of inches above the drain grate and only blocks when the drain fills with leaves. There was nothing blocking it on Friday though.

    Boiler error and noise

Our condensate pipe goes through the wall and in to a drain outside. Sometimes this drain collects lots of leaves which pile up and block it. There was nothing in it on Friday though. It was a bit windy and about 4 degrees when it all went out.

    Boiler error and noise

I've got a greenstar 28cdi compact that is almost 8 years old and on Friday it threw an error 227. I've had that error before when the condensate drain has been blocked so checked the whole run and couldn't find an issue. I turned it off a few times and eventually I heard a kind of popping...

    Socket failed, what caused it?

I've got a double socket under the kitchen sink, it's actually an external weatherproof socket (BG WP22-01). We put that in 3 years ago because the last one failed when a bottle of carpet cleaner leaked in to the old one. Plugged in to this is a 4 socket extension that feeds out of the side of...

Draughts in new loft conversion - possible causes?

Do you know how the dormer walls have been closed under the floor? Might not be explaining this well but assuming they have left the existing ceiling joists in place and ran new floor joists alongside which sit on the existing wall plate then the joists will run in to the roof space. This needs...

Sealing gap in floorboard where carpet is short

We had the short carpet issue in our Hall, you can fit a upvc cloaking trim to cover the gap and then remove it when you have the carpet replaced.

    Smart Thermostat and TRVs

I finally got my system installed, in the end I went for a bosch easycontrol as it has the ability to modulate our boiler. Was a bit of a nightmare to install as I had to run a cable from the boiler to the hall for the controller. I've got smart trvs on all the rads and they are all set on...

    Removing and refitting chipboard floor

I need to remove three chipboard flooring boards from one edge of a bedroom, fix a big draft and then refit. The tongue and grooves were fixed with woodglue so I'm going to have to cut them (planning on using a multitool). What do I do to refit, just butt up against each other? Should I glue...

    Anyone got/had external insulation installed?

We've got it on our 1930s semi. Cost about £12k in 2015. Process for ours was similar to phatboys but they didn't do any work to the existing surface (our render was coming off in chunks). The explanation was that the insulation encapsulated the bad render and the fixings went through into the...

    Perma-white peeling off

Bathroom hadn't been used so shouldn't have been too moist inside. I used Gardz because it was recommend by the local diy shop, usually I'd mist with cheap emulsion but I was trying to get it finished a bit quicker. I was using frog tape, the bathroom needed an extra coat on it which is why I...

    Perma-white peeling off

Just painted my bathroom and am a bit worried about the paint. The walls were bare plaster, done in Feb but not decorated until now. I was advised to seal the plaster first and used Gardz, waited 3 hours and then painted with Perma-white. That was a couple of days ago and today I went to...
