    Roughcasting bricked up doorway

To be honest Richhen, even though it's round the side of the house, it''s still not a job for a first timer. Give it a go by all means, but even a pro would not get it to match perfecyly. Anyway, first of all, you'll need to scratch coat it using a 4 to 1 mix (4 of "plastering sand/ 1 of...

How best to use batons for exterior render?

    Have you rendered before???

Is my builder botching my rendering?

That job looks very messy/amateurish. I would always use bellcast bead to form a drip. The photo with the stop bead used as a drip says it all, just a waste of time, plus you'll always have the join showing under the soffit. So my advice would be, use a bellcast. You can get them in galvanised...

    Skimmed - Very poor finish

What a "terrible mess",, no other words for it. You can't trust these rated websites. True, there will be some good tradesmen on it, but there will be some rubbish too. Word of mouth is ALWAYS the best.

    Looking after trowel

Another way that I always use is a "fine wet stone". You can either put a little drop of oil on the stone, then "carefuly" rub the trowel edges along it, or you can wet the stone with a drop of water. Either way, it'll take away most small "nicks".

Wow Steve, so sorry to hear about your problems mate. I really wish you all the best, and hope things get better over time. I think it's disgusting that you can't get a benefit payment. When you think of all the scroungers that have lived off of the taxpayer for years, yet you get a hardworking...
