Equitum last comment uncalled for. Yes he should do the work cos he is asking the right questions. Knowledge and experience is everything, this is the the reason OP and people like me ask the more experienced posters for advice. Not having a pop at you but Oharaf is tackling his project in the...
Regs 528.3 and 528.3.4 supply information on this scenario. Remember that plaster acts as a heatsink for electrical cables so placing heating pipes in the vicininty will not allow effective heat dissipation of the cables. Effectively you are de-rating the cables if the pipes are too close. If...
As the appliancesare more than 2m apart you will not be able to use the single switch as a single point of isolation. You will have to provide another cooker switch on the other side of the kitchen. As BAS says ok for both items on same circuit......hopefully this cable is on its own breaker...
Don't get me wrong........I absolutely believe in the standards set out in Britain.......nothing better than finishing a good job and feeling satisfied
This is a health and safety issue, and that shock should be reported in your accident book so that there is an indelible record. Quite honestly the room should be closed down as it is unsafe. I wonder if this installation complies with the Regs (having just read Section 607 of the 16th Edition )...
definitely a case for high integrity earthing. Each pc as a norm can leak 3mA to earth so with 10 computers on the same circuit a 30mA RCD would nuisance trip . A break in the cpc(earth cable) can have catastrophic consequences.
Choices: Get another PIR done to evaluate if this circuit is...
I've got a worked example in word format but not sure if it will come out on here as it uses lots of symbols. If you want me to email it let me have your mail
Personally I use drylining boxes on plasterboard.........even if its dot and dab. Just dig the brickwork a little deeper at proposed socket position. Really can't see how it is possible not to get 2 sockets level when you use plasterboard. Heavens sake you only need a spirit level and a drywall...
Everyone was right to point out the seriousness of how dangerous this fault is. It does need immediate attention. I would, however, like to thank JACKC for his contribution, I split my sides.......loved that piece of humour :D
Do you remember when Prince Phillip (whilst touring a factory in Scotland) looked at a fuseboard and said 'Looks like it was wired by an Indian'! See the images below and his comment was probably made from his navy days when he sailed into Bombay!
The thing that is striking is that this...
Thanks spark123 for taking the time to answer. The way you have answered the Q's and the Questions you asked have made things clear in my mind. Then I walk away from the comp and get confused again so I have to go back and re-read. FFS what is up with me today  !!!!!!!
The 32amp breaker is providing no protection to your 2.5mm2 cable. One of the most important functions of a breaker is protect your cable from overheating. Change it for a 16amp breaker and only wire 1 of the immersions up(then when it finally fails you simply connect to the other and replace...
