    "Low" insulation resistance

I kid you not was so surprised after my dear old Robin. Just changed my Robin for Kewtech KT 64. It measures greater than 199 at 250v, but at 500v and 1000v it measures greater than 1999. What I really like is the the L probe with integral test button........no more trying to imitate an...

Redundant cable / just got a shock / what next

Better to isolate at the consumer unit.......You should prove 'dead' before playing with cables.......most people get a belt from making assumptions. How do you know the slight shock was not 240v? I've had belt with dry dusty fingers and it wasn't too bad.........glad I hadn't just washed my...

    Measuring Zs

Just as an aside. On my 17th update course I was told the following: The new Zs tables in chapter 41 have been updated and the rule of thumb no longer applies.............Now we have to give credit to tutors who are as new to the 17th as us, so it is encumbent on us to investigate and challenge...

    Measuring Zs

Test both then........the highest reading is Zs........more likely to be found at switch as G suggests...........

    Electrical Certification

Depends how quick he is at filling them in. I always use the council........present my copy of certs to client on last day, post the councils copy same day, and customer normally waits 7-14days for Compliance certificate from council. Don't know the deal with sparks who are registered with Nic...

    supplementary bonding bathroom...another query

So John for the benefit of the OP would you agree that supplementary bonding should be run between the terminals of EACH CIRCUIT and all extraneous-conductive parts?

    "Low" insulation resistance

Well it complies...........but I for one would be a little upset to get a reading of 11Mohms ON A BRAND NEW CIRCUIT. As far as I am concerned if I don't get greater than 1999MOhms I wouldn't be happy. Clearly he's done a bad test or there is something wrong cos no way should you get a raeding...

    Electrical Certification

BAS is right control the purse strings carefully....if u pay him up on completion of his work......all bets are off and you wont get a cert. Remember money is power

    RCD bathroom

Is the shaver on a different circuit to the rest? First go and look at the main protective bonding connected to your consumer unit or Main Earth Terminal(THESE ARE CONNECTED TO YOUR GAS AND WATER INCOMMERS). Is it up to scratch i.e. 10mm2? If yes you can RCD protect ALL circuits in the bathroom...

What's wrong with this socket? (Non-professionals only)

What had the customer tried to usr from this socket? Did you find out who wired it up? How long had it not 'been working'?

See Spark123 is helping on this in another thread.......sorry did not know you were running 2 threads

    Earthing a light fitting

Nice interesting bit of kit. You will need to identify the existing cables carefully when you change over to your new fitting. You should be able to dispense with the choc block.

Adding sockets & lights in extension (Part P Req?)

Not sure the BCO will want certs. These are minor works as they are not in a special location and you are extending existing circuits. If I am correct it would be good practice to do a Minor Works Cert for safety reasons and retain this yourself. The work should be compliant with Part P but is...

    Incorrect Ring Main Wiring

Have you tested continuity at the breaker.......checked that outgoing line is continuous to the incoming line. If this were the caseyou could indeed have a ring and the fridge/freezer maybe spurs or spidered from a junction box underthe floor

    Your opinions

on that calc current at the rad would be approx 8mA. Thanks mate.....this just shows how every situ should be judged individually...What a pain

    Incorrect Ring Main Wiring

Have you lookedinside your consumer unit? What size breaker supplies this circuit? And how many live wires are terminated at the breaker? What size cable is it?
