Tracing a dead telephone extension cable

Just thinking is it possible that it runs to somewhere other than the master socket ? Perhaps to another socket somewhere else in the house. You could check in every other socket it only takes one wire to have come loose and you'll see no voltage on the pair. If still no luck then take the...

Tracing a dead telephone extension cable

There's a gadget called a tone generator that will identify the cable but it's about 100 quid not really worth it for one use. Perhaps the simplest idea is to just run another cable from the master socket ? Im guessing there is no voltage at the socket ? More detailed info will probably get a...

    Aritech CP42 Alarm

Yeah thats was my point. I know they re not perfect but they are very functional adn at least the tech support have half a clue and you don't get a trained chimp on the phone. Incidentally I have no connection to Galaxy and actually work for Menvier at the mo in case anyone was wondering

Old bells could run on as little as two cores pos and a switched neg was just making the OP aware they may encounter problems. Since we have no details on existing Bell and panel wse don't know if it's two or 20 years old !

    Old alarm system

Yes, although you may have to change the wiring configuration depending on the age of the panel. Also there may not be enough cores in the cable to correctly operate a modern SAB (Siren)

    New Alarm System

Well it's down to personal opinion really but galaxy are so damned reliable i've not found anything come close to them I know you ve pointed out a few foibles of it but I hardly think they make any difference in a domestic installation. I disagree with you about the final exit circuit...
