    hi all

I like the thermal sleeves solution. Is there anything out there that allows a timber deck to be fixed on top of the insulation without cold bridging?

    hi all

You're right. There is some cold bridging along the length of the screws. I've looked into this in the past and didn't really find any super solution. I did come across helical twisty nails which (apparently) if made from stainless steel, have a lower thermal transfer rate. It is advised to only...

Flat roof to be replaced by a pitched roof.

Hardmetalking - watch out. Don't try and say anything good about a zinc roof otherwise you run the risk of being well and truly got at by the felt traditionalists amongst us! To answer your question. We dont specify cold decks for this very reason. If you cant guarantee the necessary airflow...

Flat roof to be replaced by a pitched roof.

Most domestic roofs can be fitted with a single sheet, no joins, no mess, zero risk of fire from gas torches, remain flexible so building movements are accommodated, long lasting, UV and Ozone stable with little to no deterioration, will not go brittle or blister, have a low environmental impact...

Flat roof to be replaced by a pitched roof.

Look matey I'm bored of arguing with you now. You are obviously biased towards your preferred system and I am towards ours. You seem to spend your time lifting up EPDM and I spend my time lifting up felt so go figure. For an overall best solution for the domestic market it would be...

Flat roof to be replaced by a pitched roof.

The op is in Inverness an area which I don't cover so I'm not touting for business. I was shocked to see that they was quoted £9000 for a job that was worth nowhere near that much. I was explaining the benefits of a system which is in use and may be an alternative option to a pitched roof. I...

Flat roof to be replaced by a pitched roof.

Wasn't intended as a promotional speech I was just backing up a previous claim that was challenged. I did say previously that modern roof coverings will all last well, as long as they are installed correctly. This includes modern felt but IMO I would still choose GRP or EPDM over felt. But...

    cat balcony

I'm not entirely sure but I dont think cats are subject to the same falls from height regulations as humans. The main reason for this is that cats are well known to have 9 lives. The first 8 lives teach the cat 8 very, very important lessons. These newly attained life skills actually mean that a...

Flat roof to be replaced by a pitched roof.

Without wanting to detract from the OP's original question the first EPDM was installed in 1965 - so yes, ok, technically it is not quite 50 years old but is certianly in its fifth decade. What has been done numerous times by several independant testing bodies from around the world is taking...

    hi all

Hi there. You can buy PIR insulation with hard facers (ply or grp) to glue or fix your single ply membrane to. however, i dont like using them so when we do a flat roof we would install PIR insulation and overlay with 18mm tongue and groove OSB3 which we would fix with extra long screws at a...

    New Flat Roof

If using EPDM membrane i would consider using a tongue and groove deck - OSB3 for example, as it provides a perfectly flat substrate for the membrane to adhere to. Being only 1.14mm thick it will show up all the lips of the boards if they arent super flush.

Flat roof to be replaced by a pitched roof.

Hi John87 converting your flat roof to pitched isnt a bad idea as long as its in keeping with the style of your home and you can get a decent pitch. its certainly worth exploring various options buts its likely to be quite expensive. However, modern flat roof coverings offer exceptional...
