Conventional boiler.... comeback Combi all is forgiven!

I live in this universe. I see plenty of boilers and systems that have never failed. I can look on my terminal and see just annual service after annual service, the customer can tell me they've never had a single issue. A well installed system can last many years. I've serviced an old Ideal Élan...

A little help for a useless woman please...

Yep leave it on. A small bit of water might leak out after you've finished filling the boiler, this is normal on this model.

Conventional boiler.... comeback Combi all is forgiven!

Back on topic, clearly that cylinder is undersized. A upgrade sounds like its required. To make life better for now, try running that cylinder from first thing in the morning to last thing at night, set it up to come on an hour before you get up, example could be 6:30am till 10:30pm. That way...

    glowworm microm 60ff boiler

Well far right is a isolation for the cold feed in the loft, the other two are impossible to tell without seeing the rest of the system I'm afraid, could see which one gets hot when you run the boiler. If you've just bought the house maybe a phone call could be sorted to ask the old owner?

    glowworm microm 60ff boiler

Can you take a wider shot? I take it that's the hot water cylinder on the left? The pump will be hidden somewhere, listen for the hum.

    glowworm microm 60ff boiler

That's a single channel programmer. Try turning your room thermostat down, does that stop the radiators heating? If not, can you see a gate valve on the pipework in the airing cupboard? if there is one, it'll be after you pump just past a tee in the pipework. This is called a summer winter tap...

What Boiler Output Rating Should I Choose?

But you do agree they are more effiencent when running on their limits? you dont want a oversized appliance, it's like sticking a V8 in a Ford Fiesta.

What Boiler Output Rating Should I Choose?

An 18kw or 24kw appliance, depends on how many rads you have, loft or cavity insulation etc. You want a boiler to work hard, the harder it works the more effiencent it'll be.

Plumber has been, few questions - Help needed please

Does it need any? You don't need to remove it to clean. Yep I'd say about 70%. I see quite a few as BG did have a big drive to fit them. The old red handle isolation valves have a habit of leaking. These can be replaced of course but that has its own problems. Undoing or tightening up can...

Plumber has been, few questions - Help needed please

I highly recommend the Spirotech MB3 http://www.spirotrapmb3.co.uk/ The magnaclean is good at picking up the rubbish, but 70% will leak, even if they have the new seals and valves fitted, I've also found the magnets are starting to split now in the older models meaning they need replacing...

Please help stop the drip from my flue pipe

Baxi 105e (not instant) hot water fault

The diverter valve is a complete unit, renewing the valve will save you a packet. These are spring loaded and want to open, as the Hot Water diaphragm moves forward the diverter spring pushed the internals off their seatings, this section can jam. The valve rests in Central Heating position...

    Boiler Playing Up

The expansion vessel needs re-charging. You cant compress water so that's why the pressure whizzs from 0 to 1bar instantly. When running the boiler the hot water expands in the system, the pressure buildsup to over 3bar and is then dumped into the tundish (the black plastic bit on the pipe...

Drain valve on Valliant ecoTec plus boiler

Been a BG engineer we're told to drain off the condensation first and then Pre-charge the vessel again. This is due to the huge number of vessel we were changing, engineers saw a drop of water from the valve and instantly thought the diaphragms split. I've only changed one split vessel in 10...

Drain valve on Valliant ecoTec plus boiler

strange, I've never replaced a vessel on a Val/Glow. Just Re-charged them to .75bar :) Intact did one yesterday to a EcoTech.

Pump disintegrating??? Does this need changing

Just keep an eye on the valve, like the other replays don't touch it, if it appears damp then a plumber/Central Heating Engineer will be able to change the valve, the pump itself isn't that old. The white stuff is just a reaction in air as the water dries from the slight leak, it'll actually...

    Gas fireplace

That looks like rockwool insulation to me, more than likely your houses cavities are filled with this, or the installer packed it around the old fires flue. I wouldn't be concerned about it, Asbestos hasn't been used house hold insulation for many years.

    Worcester Bosch 37CDI boiler

Don't tell the engineer how to do their job, always annoys me when I'm told how I should do something by a customer, do I really look like I need teaching? Anyway, a Greenstar CDi can be serviced via performance test only, as with lots of modern appliances its not always needed to crack open...

    3 port - which manufacturer?

Honeywell and Drayton are the most popular. Honeywell as a package are easier to service if required.
