    G4 led replacement

you get disc shaped g4 LED's which fit well in those kinds of fittings, but you'll probably have to change the transformer/power supply for them too

    Running cable under floor

Most of the 12 page debates are sleep-inducing off-topic or barely relevant rubbish from 4 or 5 posters, the original enquiry having typically been resolved within the first few posts and other useful information lost in the babble.

Use of cement and gypsum on victorian houses

What is the wall construction? Typically here (in the many ~1898 buildings) it is either plaster on laths, over timber studs fixed back-to-back for interior walls and to stone/exterior wall lining or; 'float and skim' plaster (about 20mm thick) onto brick. In either case it's fine to use...

I just clicked on the link, read you picking out something I said, saying I was wrong, quoting some nonsense, and replied. 25% vs 41% and it it WAS voters of England who got us the tories, people did, y'know elect 100's of them to parliament, those people were voters who went out, in...

Nope, it was well over that, 30-something% off the top of my head - you'll notice I said 'voters' (ie people who voted) not 'electorate' or any other term. Scotland elected one (1) tory MP of our 59, Wales and NI not many (any?). The tory majority was thanks to the voters of England voting for...

    House fully rewired in trunking

It's CAULK, not cork. And if the installer didn't drill deep enough to get the fixing into brick that is not the fault of the rawlplug

Splitting major renovation extension for individual trades

I suspect your conclusion is wrong and that you will end up paying more, being that you have no experience of building project management and that it takes a lot of work and knowledge to coordinate different trades on a site so that things are done right first time, and achieve a good finish...

A nail - holding up the rafters?

If the joist's aren't (weren't!) tying the roof together, what is? How much of them have you removed (a photo would be great)?

A nail - holding up the rafters?

leave the joists but clad them and fit out up to the roof... mezzanine storage, rooflights or dormer etc. You'll still get the height, there will just be some (nicely finished) joists in the way. Or else there will be some way or other to do what you want, at a price.

Thanks ds. I found some flat screwless black nickel (Hamilton) master/slave so that will do and they can change the sockets too if the finish isn't close enough! Didn't find any rotary master/slave dimmer modules at all, only touch and retractive

    Is my electricity being stolen?

Says he's been to police and they said nothing illegal has happened, but I'd get a 2nd opinion! Maybe write to your MP and generally make a fuss on facebok, twitter etc, I suspect the landlord will re-offer the £1k if a bit of pressure applied! Absolute fkn chancer the landlord!

    Ban on directional halogen lamps.

What will people do?... presumably buy LED lamps instead. For all the talk of all the various kinds of bulbs that are supposedly banned I haven't had any trouble whatsoever finding suitable replacements for anything. True Tesco don't sell them and the boxes of eg 100w incandescent bulbs are...
