    Woke up to a leak!

The wife called me into the ensuite this morning to tell me the pull chord for the light was wet. Upon closer inspection there was some water on the floor tile underneath (not enough to puddle though). I opened the case of the switch and it was very wet inside (although I was expecting water...

Concerned I have a problem with my hot water system

Thanks for the reply. I have hot water to all taps now. I would have thought that the bungs would have either worked or not - I managed to stop the hot water at the 1st floor taps just not the ground floor. Would the small difference in head matter?

Concerned I have a problem with my hot water system

I fitted a new sink and tap into my garage yesterday which meant I had to shut off the water to fit new isolation valves. The cold was no problem as the stopcock was right next to the sink. However the hot side did give me issues. I bunged the supply from the main tank as well as the vent -...

    trickle charger

What you need is a battery tender - I use an optimate 4 which I leave connected to my occasional use car (maybe twice a month if I'm lucky). The tender automatically switches off once the battery is fully charged. They are totally automatic. Another brand I have used is Accumate. I have...

"Smart" charger wont charge diesel battery

I successfully recovered an almost new Bosch battery from 0v across the terminals with an Optimate 4 (which puts out 0.8 amps). I had an accident where my car was written off - it was in storage for 3 months until I bought it back as part of the settlement. When I got it home there was...

Fixing a balustrade post to cast stone coping

Thanks for the idea. What sort of resin grout did you have in mind? I did think of packing it up but couldn't work out how to finish it properly. With reagrds to the top of the post - I will be fixing a handrail to it, the ends of which will be firmly fixed to the walls. The opening is...

Fixing a balustrade post to cast stone coping

Hi, I have a low parapet wall that I wish to mount a ballustrate above - to do this I need to fix vertical posts onto the coping stones. These are once weathered cast stone copings, which means the top surface is at an angle. If I mount the post base onto these directly the post will be off...

Moving Panel - ADT Ademco Accord XPC

It's only for a few weeks and then I can install an alarm with a lot more protection, including in the garage. But thanks for the advice. I did have one minor hiccup last night when I came to set the alarm - the internal sounder went off and I got a flashing bell symbol on the keypad. The...

Moving Panel - ADT Ademco Accord XPC

I did it all this morning in a couple of hours - went off without a hitch. I took my time to record what went where and then replicated it once I'd moved the panel. Thanks for the tips, especially the one to use the battery to spoof the bell - it gave me a good amount of time to relocate the...

Moving Panel - ADT Ademco Accord XPC

I'm going to change the whole way the alarm works - at present it has 2 PIRs and 2 contacts. We have balconies on the first floor and I want to protect the entry points there as well as fitting shock sensors on the ground floor bifolds. At the moment I'm refurbishing my ground floor and have...
