RCD providing protection for indirect and direct contact

Please give your advice based on 16th edition only Scenario 1 OK so your on a 4th floor. Place has its own distribution board with RCD. You are doing a PIR. There is no likely hood that anyone is going to plug in a portable appliance for use outside the equipotential zone. Q1. So the...

    Cable calculation

Do you plan to bury the cable? Have you discussed the type of earthing arrangement that your supplier may or indeed may not supply? Is it going to be TT TNS or TNCS. This will determine your cable selection. The volt drop on a run that long is in the order of 1% for a 100amp supply. That is...

13 Amp Single Oven connection with ceramic hob

Seems pretty reasonable approach as you will be able to isolate both appliances from the single CCU above the worktop. I would however change the 'main' switch to 1 without a socket. You could have the the oven and hob both running and then someone comes along and plugs in a 2.5Kw kettle for a...

    Oven and hob supply

Well the cable size is fine and will take over 60amps if fixed by method 1. I would personally apply diversity in this situ. Get rid of the switch with the socket outlet that will save 5amps and put in a 45amp switch. Allow 14amps for the cooker and 16amps for the hob so you could use a 32amp...

    metal shed supply...earthing?

RF please clarify the following for my own edification. 1. If he decides on the TT option all main equipotential bonding must be carried out at the shed end and this precludes earthing the armour of the supply but you would still use the cpc inside the armour cable to distribute to accessories...

    metal shed supply...earthing?

Surely you would only need to TT the shed if your house has a PME (TNCS)supply. If it is TNS surely you can extend the equipontial zone from your house.

    240v fan above bath

Tend to agree withother posters on this one. Do remember the Regs are non-statutory as BAS always points out. Am surprised that the fan is not RCD protected especially as your Mum has a brand new Consumer unit. Under the 16th a 230v fan rated at IPX4 is acceptable with RCD protection in Zone...

    Office electrics.

My thoughts: I can't see anywhere in the regs that expressly forbid laying swa on the ground. However it smacks of bad practice and the regs cover only underground and overhead supply as being deemed 'suitably protected'. I can see the local rodents having a feast on the PVC outer sheath. See...

polarity test on upstairs lighting with no cpc

I'm sure there is an easier way, but brain is on slow mode today. Isolate breaker, remove phase from breaker and connect wander lead. Connect other end of low reading ohmeter to phase at light fitting, then get someone to test switch on and off to see if you make and brake continuity.

    Some opinions required

Am currently studying 2391 and wonder if someone could advise me on some things that are confusing me. 1) In Hinsleys book, Testing Electrical Installations, he quotes some examples of PSCC he talks of measurement or calculation. I quote ' Assume you have a reading of 0.10 ohms, you need to...
