Finally found the problem, the machine has had a replacement door lock in the past - someone fitted a washing machine lock rather than a washer dryer lock - there's no connection for the drying sensor - it was taped up and unused. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the info. Tried it, but no change. Where is the carbon brush? On an earlier Miele, a WT946, the front was hinged at the right to allow access. Looking at the WT2780, it looks like the sides come off. Is this correct? Are there any hidden screws? Many thanks, Robert
