    How to become a plumber

As ADL says, if someone is willing to take you on then this is the ideal way in as you will pick up a lot working alongside an experienced plumber. However you can also complete a City and Guilds/NVQ course. I started with Level 2 Plumbing, i learnt a lot from that course including hands on...

    ptfe tape

The 12 wraps ptfe is for the thread on the tail going into the rad. Although i do generally wrap a couple of turns of ptfe on most threads.

    ptfe tape

Its simply a "good practice" i was taught at college by my plumbing lecturers who worked in this field for many years. Ive taken it on board and always done this. As i've seen many joints in customers homes with PTFE tape on them, ive just accepted this as the norm.

    ptfe tape

i fail to see why its an issue, the PTFE tape on the threads wont cause any problems, if anything it can only bring benefit. Everyone does things slightly different, and he was in the plumbing trade for decades so his tips surely come from experience.

    ptfe tape

Yes. Also wrap about 12 turns of ptfe tape on the thread. Pull tight and keep it neat though, as once you tighten the nuts, the tape may push outwards from the sides and be visible. Went to a radiator job last week where the gas safe installer had done this, with the ptfe tape clearly...

    Balancing the System

I fully appreciate what you are saying Agile, but as this is a Diy site, i thought it would be worth asking the poster to try and resolve this simple issue themselves. If they dont want to try it, or unable to balance it themselves, then by all means someone local to him can contact him to...

    Balancing the System

Are you being serious? You could do this yourself with a bit of guidance. Shut all valves on all radiators. Then start with the radiator closest to the boiler. Open the valve slightly. Then go to the next radiator. Open valve a little bit more then the 1st rad. Then go to the third...

Best way to advertise plumbing services?

Firstly, this has never happened and i have fitted dozens upon dozens of these over the years. BUT should this ever happen, i'm sure public liability insurance would cover it. If not, then yes i would pay out of my own pocket for any damages i may have caused to the custoemrs property...

Best way to advertise plumbing services?

I wouldnt Well to be honest i would not work on a boiler as i am not qualified to do so. BUT i have heard of numerous cases of boiler engineers failing to repair a boiler yet still charging silly rates for failing to repair it. Just saying.

    Wrong flush and inhibitor used?

The engineer is right. In theory X300 should only be used for new systems. In theory they should have used x400 or x800, which is for older systems. I assume the x300 is not as strong as the x400, both can be left in the system for a few days then flushed out. The x800 should be used...

Best way to advertise plumbing services?

Thank you for your feedback, i appreciate this. I understand the flexi fittings are not ideal but i always ask the customer how the layout will be and get them to ok it before fitting things. The layout of that bathroom means their is a seperate cold feed pipe going under and aroudn the bath...

Best way to advertise plumbing services?

If i was to do the above, that would make me your bog standard heating/boiler engineer that charges high rates for faults they dont end up fixing  Thankfully for me, i will not even attempt a job if i am unable to do it. The only time i will ever charge anything will be for materials i...
