"Dont Take The P "campaign video

Remember that the P stands for Prescott! Would you take any notice of what that pr*t said? Part P is a tax on home owners, is unenforceable, and does nothing to curb the cowboy unregistered claiming to be electricians out there whilst adding hugely to the cost and complexity of the...

Drayton wireless RF1 & BAXI 105e boiler query.

Mine are programmable wireless stats. You set a day temp and a night temp and programme each day's on and off periods It means you don't necessarily have to let the house temp drop completely in what would normally be an off period with just a programmer. So I have a day temp of 21deg and a...

Drayton wireless RF1 & BAXI 105e boiler query.

That's exactly how my wireless programmable thermostats work. Set the main programmer to CH all ways on and let the programmable digistat control the heating, the main programmer just controls HW.

    Triplexer query

Probably plugging in the other end of your cable to their distribution amp! Having looked at their site, I suspect they hook you up and change the faceplate to suit whatever services you take off them. ( i.e F terminals if you have Sky or Freesat standard aerial for free view or both)

Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

Except that you fail to meet any of the building regs that covering the downlighters is supposed to meet. :!: The idea is to provide a moisture seal and allow the insulation to be continuous over the lights. If you are going to drill holes and leave the boxes uncovered then why bother at...

    Bathroom refurbishment - several questions

I did my bathroom refit last year so tray and enclosure has been in 12 months and looks like new still. I used http://www.designertrays.co.uk/. It had some pretty solid legs which went straight on to the floor (18mm WBP ply) and the feet were set into blobs of silicone to prevent any movement...

Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

Or just fit some Loft Caps at 7 quid each it's a lot easier!

Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

From The manufactures website ]http://www.aico.co.uk/firecap_loftcap.htm: Sounds like a solution to me, but I'm just a punter who wants downlights in my bathroom because i like them!

Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

I also fail to understand the dislike of down lighters when properly installed. If you want electrical advice you won't get better then here but there are some strongly held opinions that may not match your style and design ideas! If you have down lighters and want to keep them and insulate...

Insulating roofspace over downlighters - are hoods needed ?

What you need are these: http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TLALC724.html sealed to plasterboard using a general purpose silicone mastic as per instructions.

    Replacing F&E tank in loft

So the tank would be so high to prevent pumping over on the vent and to give enough head for the negative pressure on the feed? Also explains why my bathroom rad is always needing bleeding, negative pressure in system must be sucking in air somewhere.

    Replacing F&E tank in loft

Is that because with the pump on the return it tends to suck water back down the feed and vent pipes?

    Replacing F&E tank in loft

Thanks Yes, as I intended to re-site it I was to do it with a tank to current standards. Re-doing the loft pipe work is not a problem. I can put it at the same height as now just in a more convenient position at the gable end but I was concerned it was at the wrong height originally and that...

    Replacing F&E tank in loft

Not so sure it was a good install in the first place (1970s). Lots of stuff in the building is odd. Like: The motorised valves are under the toilet floor! Really convenient when the valve goes, which they do every year or two presumably because they are so hot sat next to the manifolds. So I...

    Replacing F&E tank in loft

I have an oil fired Trianco boiler, the feed and vent come directly off one side of the boiler and the 28mm flow and return come off the other side of the boiler. Pump is in the return. System is microbore with two manifolds and a feed to the HW cylinder (open vented indirect HW) each of those...

    choosing a water softner

Scaled shower heads (and corrosion from acid descalers), taps, shower cubicle screens, kettles, washing machine element, when I replaced the HW cylinder and there was about ten inches of scale deposits in the bottom. Soap scum, lots of shower gel , shampoo to even get a lather. I could go on:-)...

    choosing a water softner

I installed a Fountain Homewater 300 from Fountain Softeners a year ago. No electric needed as it uses a meter. Not cheap but excellent, difference is fantastic as we are in a very hard water area, no more limescale! Get salt delivered from online supplier or buy from local plumb centre.

No Outlook 2003 is a full PIM (Personal Information Manager) that does email, calendedar, tasks and contacts) What are you using? XP OR Vista? Vista has Windows Mail, XP has OE. You will need to set up an account in either of these to use the same account settings as you use for your...

New consumer unit but with complications

I did wonder about a second box and that could be surface mounted (don't want to hack another hole out of the outer skin)? But as I said DNO has changed the meter twice and nothing has ever been said about CU in box. As I understand it it is my box they just put the meter in it. Plus the...
