    raised deck concrete support posts

Yes but as its a raised deck I need the supports to be very strong. I just assumed that a post sunk 1m in concrete would be stronger than one bolted into a shoe on top but I suppose either way will be strong enough. what would you suggest for the foundation? Jus fill it in with concrete? I...

    raised deck concrete support posts

Ok so I've currently dug 4 holes 1m deep for the base posts. Are you suggesting it will be better (and stronger) to just fill these in with concrete and then fix the timber posts to the top using what you suggest or a post shoe, rather than actually sinking the post into the ground? I suppose...

    raised deck concrete support posts

So what are you suggesting just bolting one of those onto the bottom of a timber post? is that going to make much of a difference? Obviously the bottom of the holes will be filled with hardcore anyway. I was also thinking of using a met post/post spike driven right into the bottom of the hole...

    raised deck concrete support posts

Anyone know where I could get some large diameter plastic pipe for this job? I'm planning to use wooden posts 100x100mm, but am thinking of concreting these inside a large diameter plastic pipe to protect from water/rot but just unsure where I could get such a thing? Would be looking for...

    raised deck concrete support posts

Would the post still rot if the bottom was completely encased in concrete, ie I mould the concrete around the post so that it comes above the ground so no water touches the post? Also as the ground around the base is all damp and wet, would concrete around a wooden post prove waterproof?

    raised deck concrete support posts

I don't want to use concrete posts as they are awkward to work with (cut/drill etc) and are not really the right thing for the job but the problem is that the posts are going near a stream and in water so I thought concrete would be the only way as I want it to last & not rot etc. Digging...

    raised deck concrete support posts

Hi i'm building a raised deck & am planning on using concrete support posts as opposed to wood. What is the best sort of post to use for this as I wanted to use 4x4 posts but can only seem to find 3x3 slotted fence posts! I was thinking of maybe using a concrete lintel instead? Also can...

    Raised deck Bearer layout

What's the recommended distance between each post/joist for a raised deck that size?

    Raised deck Bearer layout

Do you think that option would provide a stronger more sturdy deck if I had less joists that were cut, ie just 4 or 5 3.2m lengths, bearing in mind this will be a raised deck?

    Raised deck Bearer layout

Hi guys, Am in the process of planning a raised deck platform, roughly 3.2 x 2.2 meters. I've come up with the attached plan for the bearer layout, just wanted to get some advice on whether this design is suitable & strong enough, or should it be designed differently. It is basically 4...

    Decking support in water

not realy, thats why the support post has to go in the water! Like the idea of building a sort of dam round it tho so looks like thats my best solution. What would be the best way to encase a wooden support post in concrete that come above the ground ie so the concrete is higher than the...

    Decking support in water

Impressive, but is there any set guidlines or general rule of thumb? Ive heard somewhere it can be a 3rd of the overall length is that correct, e.g. if the deck was 2m long then it can only hang over 66cm? or could it be longer depending on joists etc?

    Decking support in water

How far can it be cantilevered ie what distance? Whether it is in the stream or not it is running next to it so pretty sure wherever I dig will hit water at some point so just need the best solution for securing the supports

    Decking support in water

Hi guys, Need to replace some decking in my garden that runs parallel to a small shallow stream. The existing support posts have rotten due to the water so it all needs to be replaced. My question is, what is the best way to install the new support posts as the ones at the front are in the...

    New fence guide

Unfortunatly it is a whole number of panels so new posts will have to go in the same holes as originals! Whats the best way of getting it straight and level (height)? just string across the top at the required height or check depth of each hole & ensure all the same to follow the ground level...
