Old Galaxy 18 with *** Firmware

No, it's just the Galaxy banner default. You can edit the Galaxy two line banner to anything you want.

Comfort II alarm - anybody fitted one? Alternatives?

American - yes, but I think they're pretty big in the HA arena.

Comfort II alarm - anybody fitted one? Alternatives?

I use the Galaxy Dimension for this myself. Although, like most of the UK professional systems, the home automation part is not as sophisticated as something that was designed for HA from the ground up.

Old Galaxy 18 with *** Firmware

There are vendor branded firmware releases by Honeywell. The panel you have will have an ADT branded firmware chip installed and the branded firmware has ADT's defaults. On the older 'classic' Galaxy panels, the firmware is held on EPROM. To upgrade, you need to pull the EPROM out and...

which alarm system... galaxy, menvier, texecom?

If you have the space, then the Dimension is better. I have this at home and also have it doing things like opening the garage door on a separate code and controlling external lighting. I also have the IP module connected to self monitor and get event messages to my phone and e-mail. All...

which alarm system... galaxy, menvier, texecom?

If going for Galaxy, I would advise going for a G2 series for domestic. If you want to include some sort of home automation at a later date, then step up a bit to the Dimension panel which is about twice the physical size. For self monitoring at lowest cost, then IP is probably the best way...

    Network switch selection

It's unlikely that you will benefit from taking more than 1 link from the router to the attic. If the router/MODEM is only assigning addresses and supplying internet traffic, then as someone pointed out previously, it's unlikely that a single link will run at anywhere near its capacity.

    Network switch selection

The MODEM will probably be an ADSL MODEM/Router/Switch/WiFi all in one. If it's reliable enough, then no need to swap out.

    Network switch selection

I have a 2 U network cabinet with a 1U patch panel. A small network switch can then sit in the lower 1U space with patch leads from the panel sockets to the switch. You could just terminate all the cables with RJ45 connectors, then plug directly into the switch which would be cheaper. I like it...

Replacement Alarm System - Your recommendation

I tend to stick to the Honeywell Galaxy range of panels. A G2-12 can be picked up new with next day delivery on Ebay for £30. About the same for a keyprox LCD keypad. The good thing about these panels is that there are always plenty of low cost add-ons available on Ebay. You can add RF...

Comms line fail on Galaxy Flex 50

I've not looked at this particular module in detail, but generally the modules only have a couple of conditions that they can send to the panel. I'm guessing that the module failed to reach the message center and posted a line fault for that reason. Check that your mobile signal strength is...

    ADT Alarm keeps in Beeping

It's low voltage (12V), so would maybe blow a fuse at the control panel if you shorted the power cores. You probably don't have an external sounder, so shouldn't have any problems there. You could also just pull the fuse on the spur near the panel just to remove power totally. If you have an...

    ADT Alarm keeps in Beeping

The alarm is most likely a Galaxy G2 series which will have a metal control panel located somewhere in your home (normally in a cupboard). The phone line is connected and monitored for voltage. The engineer disconnected the phone line and the panel has registered the fault. If you don't have...

    Galaxy G2

Hi Ryan, The method posted on various forums doesn't work with the G2 series - not sure if it was posted to mislead DIY'ers, as I haven't seen it work with any of the firmware levels I've seen. It also doesn't work with the older G8+/G16+ boards. If you get stuck PM me.

Anyone recommend a IP alarm system ?

I think you're probably best keeping the alarm and CCTV separate. You can configure the alarm to activate an output for the CCTV, but it's probably better having the CCTV recording 24hrs continually. An IP based CCTV system will enable you to log in and view at any time. The alarm would...

How to replace Galaxy 2 alarm battery

There is a way to do this without the engineers code, but you need to be fast. You need to power mains off, connect the new battery and power mains on, then get the lid cover on before the system boots. PM me if you get stuck.
