Why are quotes so widely varied for same job?

Your big national companies would come in Highh, any company who have large over heads would come in high, companies that dont have time or doesn't see the job worth while again could be overpriced, small recommended local companies is the way forward. I would question any company that offers...

    How can I rectify this?!

We've all done it! Order some new doors, you should be able to sell the mis-measure to a builder on ebay or ask you supplier to let their builders/fitters know there's some cheap doors on offer, expect to lose £100 plus on them and buy yourself a new tape measure

Slim Sightlines - Rehau, Kommerling, Veka or Liniar?

Never fitted the Rehau Edge, customer's never requested it, think it came out last year or poss year before. We've had to match existing windows a couple of times before which were sculptured but we opted for Eurocell

    Purchasing frames from trade supplier

It's a bit odd how after all your online research and the numerous questions on other forums you've opted for the yellow pages?! Going direct to a supplier and using a different installer sometimes has it's problems. 1. You don't know what the fitters work is like! 2. Any non fitting...

    Victorian Sliders

Like I said before, it's all in the fitting, but I would certainly question a companies confidence in their product if only a one year guarantee is issued. I came unstuck last year when I had to go back to a customer and change all the fittings that had started to flake, this was 4yrs after the...

    Victorian Sliders

Synseal gets my vote, been using these for 3-4 years now, use Rehau as well but very pricey! It's all in the fitting, lovely looking windows especially when finished off with timber internally 👍 http://www.synseal.com/Home/Systems/WindowsAndDoors/VerticalSlidingWindows.aspx

    Victorian Sliders

Never fitted any from this company but I've been told they're ok, as long as they're fitted properly you shouldn't have any issues. Quickslide is another cheapish slider, although the guarantees on both companies are only 1 year on hardware and 5 on spring loads, this is why I opt for a...

UPVC Window Reveals - Damp Patches bottom corner

The gap between the window and sill remains, don't seal! This allows the water to drain out from under the window if any gets in to the profile. You need to try and pump silicone into the corners to stop the rain soaking into the brickwork. I'd hack off the damp plaster and pump sealant in...

UPVC Window Reveals - Damp Patches bottom corner

As mentioned in many posts previously, the most likely cause here is where silicone hasn't been applied to the sill before the window sits on top. Rain drives under the window, hits the lip and makes it way to the ends, if no sealant is in place the rain with penetrate into brick/block.

Building Regs / Planning Permission - Moving External Door

As of Jan 2014 (I think), Fensa no longer allowed installers to certify these kind of jobs. They must now all be signed off through building control. From Fensa • The removal of Brickwork (e.g. conversion of windows to patio cut outs, door to window, window to door) are not considered...
