    The last word....

"O brave new world, that has such people in't" these were Shakespeare's words but used by Huxley.

    Servicing

Stivino: don't be so impatient. People on here give their time freely and many of them have busy working lives. By the way, my gearbox is making a funny noise. How much will this cost to fix, or should I do it myself? I've had quite a bit of experience with DIY and used to do my own oil changes.

I don't get it. Loads of people have posted problems on this thread and as far as I can see not a single one has been answered yet.

    Air vent in chimney stack

You must have two separate flues sharing the same stack, one for a downstairs fireplace and one for the room above. As they have presumably been bricked up, both flues need ventilation. So you shouldn't block either of the vents.

    squeek

It could be a pad wear indicator, designed to make a squealing noise when the pads are sufficiently worn to allow a metal peg to contact the disc. Whatever the cause, get someone to check your brakes as soon as possible.

Ban All Sheds or Ban Ban All Sheds

Unhelpful: yes, he can be at times; usually when he wants to make a point. Boring: I can think of plenty of others who fit that description, but I don't think it applies to Ban. As for the sheds, it's rumoured that he's modified his views on this subject and there have been reported...

    Table Saw jammed....

There's likely to be a reset switch. I know you say you can't find anything, but have another look for a button on the motor somewhere, and press it in.

    Stripping doors

The great majority of domestic Victorian doors were designed to be painted (often to imitate wood grain) and they can have quite a bit of filler in them to hide the cracks when they were made. Dipping in caustic soda is a quick way to remove all the paint and most of the filler, and can be a...

    Chimney breast removal

I believe you may be looking for steel gallows brackets, but it's not clear from your question what you are trying to achieve. Try rephrasing; also, ask a moderator to move this to the Building section, where you're more likely to get some helpful responses.

    Drywall screws

I've read that the Philips head was designed to cam out; presumably this was a crude form of torque limiting, useful when unsophisticated power drivers, without their own torque limiting devices, were employed on assembly lines. This feature of the Philips head is a real pain for most users...

    14V - 18V

It's best to start by thinking what you're likely to want to use the tool for. For example, if you have a lot of large diameter holes to drill you need a machine with higher torque (which generally means a higher voltage). Check the specification. The higher voltage drills will be heavier and...

Kitchen Wal Units - Advise on fixings

Yes: I'd use horizontal battens as this is more likely to suit the fixings for the wall cupboard (but check where the screws for these will go). 50mm seems plenty wide enough.

Removing a uPVC Panel from a Door

Start in the middle of one the longer mouldings; try pressing the moulding inwards with the heel if one hand while inserting a knife in the gap which you should be able to discover between the moulding and the door. I use a worn putty knife with rounded edges for this in order to try to minimise...
