    Bathroom fan wiring help needed

http://www.diynot.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=7553 As I said in other discussion - try here!! Bottom of first page there are 2 examples. You may find the earth in 3 c and earth is redundant anyway as the fan is probably double insulated and there'll be nowhere to attach the earth to.

Any regs/ similar etc for rooms with a sink?

Hi , Are there any regs or guidelines on the installation of appliances (an electric convector heater (BEHA)) in rooms containing a sink - cloak/WC. I know there are the regs re bathrooms/shower rooms but I can't find anything on sinks/wcs. Part of my query is that the heater will have to be...

    Earthing an aquarium

I'm not an electrical expert - but what I'd suggest is either attaching to a suitable earth rod buried in the ground outside or , as it's microvoltages how about attaching your titanium earthing wire to an antistatic earthing strap and plug - the plug will only have the earthing pin - the Live...

    What Drill?

Bosch & makita do some cordless Lithium battery SDS drills - not sure if they'd cope with Diamond or TCT cores of 100mm plus though. I think Bosch do "claim" that their Li SDS drill is as powerful as a mains drill - and I think they have fast recharge times and no memory effect.

    Earthing an aquarium

I think it's actually done to protect the "livestock" from microvoltages - possibly from static build-up? I believe marine fish are sensitive to this? You might be best off looking on one of the marine fishkeeping sites to see if anyone has any more info there.

Mixer shower advice for clueless girl!!!!!

There'll be a queue of plumbers carrying TMVs,PRVs, TM showers etc outside your door quicker than you can get your top up!! I seem to remember seeing one of those plug in type showers that attaches to the taps that actually had some sort of thermostatic control - probably in one of those mini...

Two reasons not to let a CORGI in your house

Going back over old ground: "No person shall carry out any work in relation to a gas fitting or gas storage vessel unless he is competent to do so" So- Anyone who works with gas fittings must be competent, including do-it-yourself installers and those performing favours for friends and...

    Discouraging children to pass through

I'd try some native species - blackthorn - vicious stuff, gorse, hawthorn, brambles etc - also a good bet is nettles - spread quickly and good for wildlife too. A temporary fix, if you can stand the smell and flies is to spread some manure around the area - horse is quite good - keeps the...

    Push flush button keeps sticking!

Not sure if it is the bellows thats faulty - I still think there should be a spring somewhere in the button mechanism. There may be a kink or blockage in the air pipe which prevents the bellows retracting - its the weight of the valve unit that forces the bellows back down - a blockage/kink...

    Push flush button keeps sticking!

Pneumatic flush - lovely! Great if you want to put the push button miles away from the cistern. Might be worth checking that the spring that is behind the push button is working OK - if the button doesn't spring back correctly the flush stays up. If the buttons not too far from the cistern...

    fused isolating switches

Inspection of the instruction books I have to hand confirms that removal of the mains plug is not reccomended - some manufacturers acctaully state "Do not Modify or replace the Plug" - not sure what you're supposed to do if the plug gets dmaged - probably replace the whole mains cord as an...

How deep should a gas supply pipe be below a concrete floor?

Depends how much work they want to do - applying these regs every house on my estate would need the floors and walls digging up to replace the copper pipe buried in the concrete - and the T's buried in the floor too! I've had 3 CORGI blokes in to service and install appliances and one to...

    Electric static shocks

I seem to remember reading somewhere about an incident in Australia where the static build-up on a nylon carpet fitted in a new hotel actually caused a fire! That one must have taken some working out. Re static from the car, either touch the bodywork before you get out - and keep hanging on...

    Saniflo Plus - Pipework

Getting back to the original question it's worth remebering that solvent weld pipe will require fitting in such a way as to cope with thermal expansion - you don't say what sort of waste water you're pumping - but if it's appliance waste it could be up to 90°C and may be under a bit of pressure...
