As it happens when i went to visit him last night, there is a wasps nest which needs to be sorted but more concerning, there is existing dry rot to some of the woodwork up in the loft, so i have advised him to get a specialist in, with a view to getting this treated before he attempts any work...

Advice on changing loft space for storage

Hi all, i am posting this on behalf of a friend, who i am going to see at 9pm tonight. He has a semi detached property with a traditional roof. He wishes to utilise this space as storage but when i have spoken to him, he wants to put his small studio, keyboard, mic and computer in the loft...

Electric setup 3phase with pics and diagram question

We certainly don't intend to keep the storage heaters, we will be looking at gas central heating throughout. I would give you a rightmove link, but it is not being sold in that way, i have had to approach the council direct about the property and take the lead on most things.

Electric setup 3phase with pics and diagram question

Thanks for the comments. Everything in the house is surface mounted. There are masses of storage heaters as there are no radiators at all, nor fires. There are quite a few hand dryers and there are about 17 rooms. As part of the modernisation i will want the wires to be sunk in the wall...

Electric setup 3phase with pics and diagram question

Hi all, I've just had my offer accepted on a very large victorian detached house. My surveyor has been in today to give me a full overhaul of the property, so i took it upon myself to go and have yet again another nose around. The property is a former nursery and has been other commercial...

No electric in the middle of the Spanish countryside

Hi all, I'm thinking of buying abroad and need some advice on permanent electricity. I am considering solar, wind (hydro is out of the question) and generator. With regards to generators - i take it you can have a permanent supply from this source (what are the running costs roughly to run a...

    Generators advice

The area is spain, so pretty much a good amount of sun. Yeah i understand the pool bit, i'm not too fused as the sun will keep it at a moderate temperature, i was thinking more for pumps and filters that require power. I'll ask in electrics outside of uk

    Generators advice

Thanks for the help so far. I can build up to 300m2 but in reality it will be 200-250m2. It will be for a few weeks here and there but that may increase dependant on a number of factors. wood fired stove isn't a problem and gas bottles can be obtained for running other things. Pump for...

One Ring Circuit for the whole house

Thanks for all the people who replied...... i guess i'll see what the sparky says once he gets back, i think it is a case of just keeping this installation simple, its only a small house and so i'll leave it up to the sparky to decide. Thanks again all

Thanks, it was just a question...... It seems to make more sense if they were on two separate rings.

One Ring Circuit for the whole house

The sparky said he is fitting a 17th edition consumer unit, so i guess that is a yes.

One Ring Circuit for the whole house

Yes, i think i would, but i was wondering if there are any regs to stop somebody putting bedroom and living room circuits on one ring. i guess there would be a total of 11 double sockets - bedroom load would be negligible, i guess so would the living room.......

One Ring Circuit for the whole house

Well, not the whole house but this is my question. I've got the boys in, taking all of the old wiring for the whole house and chasing out for the sparky to come and do first fix. I popped up this afternoon to find that the upstairs bedrooms and downstairs living room are all on one circuit...
