yep i heard that as well when i last did my test and inspection exam
and was also told that the person who wires the install will have to test it as well
none of that you wire it and then get the one person on the firm with test and inspection to go and test it
i have just moved to australia and any body that isnt licenced can not under take electrical work of any kind.
even though the regulations over here are not as critical as back in england i think this is a good idear and the U.K should do the same
right i haven't calculated any thing like this for ages and cant remember how to do it so if any one could let me know id be grateful :lol:

its ok to extend a ring main with junction boxes as long as the ring doesnt exceed 100m2 and you use 30amp jb's
it is ok to join any cable as long as it is accessable to inspection or repair if a fault occurs
it is ok to put a double socket on a spur because the double socket is protected...
use an rcd tester if you know some one who has one or im sure you could prob hire one
tests are
50% of the rated trip current of RCD shouldnt trip in each half cycle
100% of the rated trip current of RCD should trip the RCD in each half cycle
should trip within 200ms
500% or the...
use 30amp terminal block and as long as the join is accessible then that is ok
but for the sake of pulling a new cable in y bother with the join it will make you feel much more safer any join is a hot spot and can cause problems :P
