    Radiator valve covers/knobs

Can those be left on permanently? - All I really need to do is to be able to turn the radiators on and off.

Painting the metal of a Victorian fireplace

I have cleaned up a victorian fireplace and was going to give the cast iron parts a coat of black paint. I bought some 'Rustins heat resistant Black paint' to do the job but have just noticed they also do a 'High heat' version as well. Should I be using the latter one as presumably it is more...

water damage - what to do?

there is no leak. I think it's been something from the washing machine at some point, which has flooded, gone under the flooring and been left. (it's not my property)

water damage - what to do?

Found a smallish patch of water damage in kitchen flat area. Looks like there has been some leak/flooding at some point and not dealt with. The flooring was bending/bowing under-foot so I've taken that up and found it still wet and crumbling underneath. See pics. Firstly just trying to dry it...

    'sealing' masonry paint

I've used masonry paint on interior concrete. It will get walked on a little, here and there, what would be best to put over the top of it to 'seal' it? I'm guessing floor varnish isn't the right thing?

what colour for interior brickwork in old chimney?

Thought of that, and I like exposed brick, but just feel too knackered to leave.

what colour for interior brickwork in old chimney?

I'm deliberating what to do with this brickwork, I've just re-pointed it as it was in a bad state, having not being touched since built. (victorian) But feels too worn to leave as 'exposed. So what colour to paint, given the surrounding wall is a deep red.

    sealing/painting a pond

some images attached. Not sure what the sealer/paint is. Ideally would like to simply go over the top of it rather than remove it.

    sealing/painting a pond

3 ponds in all. two are around 8ft long by 4ft wide and then one small one about 2X2ft. Yes maybe using the same stuff again is a good idea - any idea what brand/ type - link? I think it has actually been around 40 years that the other stuff has been on for, so it obviously works.

    sealing/painting a pond

The fibreglass is in a bad condition and split in various places, so I was thinking of going over the whole thing with a new sealant but thought I may need to rip it all off and start again on the concrete. ?

    sealing/painting a pond

Hi. The ponds at my mums house are leaking and I was going to try and clean out and re-seal over the summer. First: They are concrete with some sort of painted fibreglass (?) sealant. (which is leaking) This is at least 30 years old. Do I remove all this first or simply go over over it with a...

    Best way to remove weeds/garden

Easiest way to sort it out given you have no back alley access. Get a tarp or a load of old carpet (freecycle) cover the area until early next year. take the coverings off in jan/feb and dig the whole garden over taking out all the weeds/roots/debris - you'd be surprised how little...

Old Ponds - sorting them out!

Two ponds in garden that are leaking badly. Think last time they were treated was around 15 years ago. they have some sort of green fibreglass/plastic coating (?) A couple of questions.... Do I need to strip this green covering off to the concrete below? What is best sort of...

Victorian bannister & spindles - taking out & puttin

The idea of stripping over 100 spindles in place is more scary to me than trying to remove them & get them dipped.....
