    I think we've given them a good run for their money - they've certainly made our lives pretty uncomfortable. But at the end of the day, I think they will just be glad the uPVC and aluminium windows have gone.

    Thanks for that - I'd never thoguht about that - what DID they do to seal between window frame and brick before the days of silicone sealant? Just lime mortar, I guess? Putty? We do find that rain tends to sit on the top of the opening sash, held by surface tension between sash and frame...
