You checked anything to do with power going to the bell box and to the panel? If power going to the bell box is lost then it will ring until the battery in the bell box is depleted, hence 7 hours. I gather the system went into alarm meaning the bell box subsequently sounded? If I'm thinking...

I think Yale do a wirefree ancillary internal speaker/sounder. Did a quick search and there seems to be one, however I'm not sure. If there is, buy one. It'll help. Is there a keypad in the garage and does it produce any sound?

It's good practice to hide the alarm control panel away from sight and therefore prying eyes to eliminate basic risks such as an intruder breaking the panel open and disconnecting the mains and battery for example.

I myself would go with a Scantronic 9448 for a house like that. If you want bigger, having a look at a Scantronic 9651 or a Castle Euro mini may be a good start.
