    Orangery Roofing System Cost?

Does anyone know how much an orangery roofing system costs roughly? I got a quote for the K2 aluminium system which I was promised was at a substantial discount to usual retail price. The breakdown was: Orangery kit - £6.3k Lantern + Celsius plus glass £1.6k (+ 2.8m bifold door at £2.8k)...

Gas pipe routing - boiler move to attic

Hi. I want to have our boiler moved from the garage to the attic. Is it ok to route the gas pipe through the house? I want to run the pipe up through the understairs cupboard then across (under the floorboards) approximately 2m to the airing cupboard and up into the loft. I was told once...

Meter move to outside of premises

Yep! That's not all. I had a boiler fitted in the garage as well 2-3 years ago that I now want to move to the loft. But then again there was only 2 of us then, now 4 (me, wife, 15 month old, 8 week old)!

Meter move to outside of premises

I was referring to this charging schedule from Natgrid: http://www.nationalgrid.com/NR/rdonlyres/2FC00926-188C-403C-B70D-6ABFC417AEB9/43333/DomAltPrices1.pdf However, I have just stumbled across this guidance regarding carrying out the works...

Meter move to outside of premises

Hi. I am planning to have both gas and electric meters moved c.2.5mtrs from inside my garage to the outside wall. Clearly there will be some excavation work needed. We have recently had a new pic drive laid so would ideally like the supply extending from its current position, under the...

Foundations suitable for building 2nd storey?

Well, I spoke to building control regarding the foundations. They didn't need to come out to inspect the foundations as they had the original records from 1980. Unfortunately the raft foundations are for single storey only so underpinning (or moving house) is the only option. We...

Foundations suitable for building 2nd storey?

Foundations suitable for building 2nd storey?

Thanks for the quick response guys. It's good to see the forum is still so active. :D Underpinning is a show stopper for me (not least cos the extensions along the boundary and my grumpy neighbour is likely to object strongly!). I will follow Freddy's advice and see what they say

Foundations suitable for building 2nd storey?

Hi. We currently have a single storey extension to the side of our house and would like to add another storey (+pitched roof). Looking at the original plans from when the extension was built (30yrs ago) the foundations are 700mm wide x 23mm deep and lie 0.75m below ground level (to reg d3 if...

Soil Pipe Boss - limited space?

Yeah I saw that. Looks like I need part BW8 but I don't know where I can buy that (or similar) from. Ideally I would like to assemble the parts I buy in the shop before buying so that I can be sure I'm within the 10cm limit. Is it advisable to use solvent weld in inaccessible area's? If I...

Soil Pipe Boss - limited space?

Maybe a diagram would be better. I'm fitting a dishwasher where the washing machine used to be (next to the sink). The washer will be moved across the kitchen where there is no external wall (any other wall is not an option due to the garage and next door property). The external door prevents...

    Bathroom ventilation

That long vertical pipe in the cold attic space will act as a condensing column. It's not surprising that water is dripping back in cold weather. Lagging the pipe would help but I agree with the previous post... Job needs redoing.

Soil Pipe Boss - limited space?

Hi. I'm installing a washing machine at home and want to plumb the waste into the soil pipe. The soil pipe is boxed in with limited space inside (10cm between pipe and box wall). I need to fit a 90 deg elbow as it won't be possible to boss straight into the pipe due to practically zero space...

Water supply difficult to access (embedded in cement)

Thanks Mark, you have confirmed my fears. The pipe is cemented in from where it enters the room (kitchen extension - through the old external walls) right down to the floor. Sounds like a lot of work to chisel out to get enough movement. I will invest in a core drill set and take a new...

Water supply difficult to access (embedded in cement)

Not sure if this belongs in 'plumbing' but here goes... I want to fit a dishwasher and need to fit a tee piece into the current kitchen water supply. Unfortunately the pipe (lagged copper) is cemented an inch or so into the wall. Am I likely to break the pipe if I carefully chip away to...

Advice with plastering (old and new sockets)

I would cover the cable with some channeling (this sort of stuff http://www.diy.com/diy/jsp/bq/nav/nav.jsp?action=detail&fh_secondid=9290856&fh_view_size=6&fh_location=%2f%2fcatalog01%2fen_GB&fh_search=channeling&fh_eds=%c3%9f&fh_refview=search&ts=1217278399691&isSearch=true) and seeing as its a...

Fixing Plywood prior to Karndean fitting

Thanks Matty. I wasn't aware I needed to leave an expansion gap. I've been told to fill any gaps with Karndean Skimcoat.

Fixing Plywood prior to Karndean fitting

Thanks for the tips flooringman. I'm mid way through the job now and things are going well (no movement and no raised edges, etc). Just one more daft question ... what does nailing at 6 inch centres mean? Does that mean every 6 inches around the circumference plus a few in the middle of the...
