    Plastic pipes in floor screed...

Just a quick point - not sure if I have read your message right, but the cold water at the kitchen sink must be direct from the water undertaker - i.e. not softened water. Apologies if you already knew this - wasn't quite clear from your post.

    Leaking Radiator at bottom

Yes Rad extension tails are what they mean - if you mean you have the union type instead of compression then just buy union extension tails. Definitely replace the rad, these generally rust from the inside out therefore if its leaking it is rotten through. New rad of that size is going to...

    anti gravity valve

Thats on hell of a area you cover!! ;) Well if its one or two they are both easy to test... either reduce the height of the ball valve and see if it still does it - make sure you give it time to fill back up if its backfilling to test it properly. Or Turn off the switch to the...

    anti gravity valve

It depends what happening... If water is expanding up the cold feed pipe from the HWC then no... because its nothing to do with the ball valve is it. You need to determine where the water is coming from... you should be able to feel the cold feed pipe getting hotter and working its way up...

    anti gravity valve

Possibly adding the pump has meant its given it a bit of resistance on the outlet pipe where it would have previously would have expanded. Dont fit a check valve as this will prevent water expanding up there where it can be "dumped" to safety via the overflow pipe. If you fit a check valve...

    anti gravity valve

Have you tried using the pump properly? Are you sure the tank is correctly sized for a full house pump???? Sounds way undersized to me... i.e. shower pump is going to pump water out quicker than it can refill! The "cold water" on these is generally warm as it sits directly ontop of a hot tank...

    Tiling

Or - slide the bath into position once its all levelled etc... mark off where it will go against the wall... then batton off horizontally at the next tile level above it... then tile the room. You can the put the bath back into place, seal it against the wall and do the final row of tiles...

new bathroom - an update and question

Im afraid you are over an hour away from me otherwise id be happy to help. As Mark says, try your local plumbing merchants and although they probably wont be able to "recommend" someone they will happily pass you some phone numbers - and they won't give you the number of someone they don't...

    help with shower problem please

Inlet filter may well be blocked, do you have hardwater and limescale issues in your area? I assume that no one is turning on the kitchen cold tap when you are finding you have low pressure

new bathroom - an update and question

No, just needed to be recommended by at least two current home watch members.

new bathroom - an update and question

Further to Marks point above, that reminds me, I am on our Home Watch recommended traders list - similar to what Mark says - you have to have a couple of members recommend you after doing work for them - perhaps you could ask your neighbours if they have something similar?

new bathroom - an update and question

Any recommendations? Local small newspapers? Recommendation is the best way obviously - but otherwise, the guidance of three quotes and then choose your favourite from that. Dont base it just on price - ask them questions and get a feel for which ones really understand the job. Get examples...

Washers that don't fit and toilets with strange holes!

They usually come in the bottom of the pan, make sure they arent just around the bend of the outlet pipe! If not most plumbers merchants will stock replacements. However, you will probably get away with siliconing the pan down, and just fill on the holes with white silicone

    DIY drain unblocking warning!

Couldn't agree more - got called out last week to a customer who had poured caustic soda down their shower trap to try and clear it... unfortunately this was linked into the Saniflow....... = expensive repair bill! Much cheaper to just call out a plumber and clear the blockage in the first...

    Indirect hot water cylinder

Why won't the self cutting tap work if it was applied to a pipework at the base of the DHWC - assuming it is correct sized pipe - just to drain that pipework down. Its just effectively providing a drain down point at a point in the pipework lower than the DHWC. DHWC could be on the ground...

    Cowboy Trap

Tell me about it. Tonights one was no better!... Basin not siliconed in properly, WOODEN skirtingboard plinth given to the shower tray - wonder how long that will take to rot!!!... Tiling on the kitchen splashback was all uneven. AND - why does he always start the program saying - I...

    External AAV Question

I know its always said that AAV's only fitted where system is vented elsewhere - but just reading through polypipe website and they say the following.... 1. For up to and including four dwellings, one, two or three storeys in height, additional drain venting is not required. 2. For five to 10...

replacing a radiator, sizes don't make sense

sounds like its an old imperial rad. You need to fit a 1400mm radiator and then use these on the rad valves to make up the difference. http://www.screwfix.com/search.do;jsessionid=RNOR53AN5RV5OCSTHZOCFFI?_dyncharset=UTF-8&fh_search=17552&searchbutton.x=0&searchbutton.y=0&searchbutton=submit
