    Tingling feeling when touching applicances

As suggested, but please stop touching the two drums to check for a tingle. If there is a developing problem you are putting your heart right in the path of any fault current.

Help diagnosing fluorescent tube light problem

A new fitting will cost under £15 (you already have the tube). Is it worth getting ballast and starter to save less than £5?

Are SP or DP grid switches safest for 5A light sockets?

Wasn't there a recent post with several replies referring , I think, to a pump, where a DP switch caused problems with tripping of the RCD due to slight differences in the L & N opening movements? Problem solved by moving to SP so maybe this should be a consideration?

    Expanding foam on T&E

Recently took out some T&E cables which had been covered in polyurethane expanding foam about 10 years ago. They were fine.

    help with electric wires.

For heaven's sake. SUMO. To the OP: I think that the electrical side of safe isolation has been answered, but for my 2p worth - get a good torch; turn everything off at the main switch(es) for all circuits (check -) before doing anything on any of your wiring and you'll be safe. As a...

    RICS Scotland supports...

On one hand anything which improves living conditions and makes for safer housing must be a good thing, however, there already is legislation which covers fitness and which includes defective fittings and electrical wiring. Local authorities have the responsibility for dealing with the...

Fixing boxes to a tanked wall.

Not easy, but I'd suggest telling him that boxes have to be surface mounted or you won't do it. Sounds dramatic, but I have seen cases where tanking has failed or has been the wrong solution and when problems arise the tradesmen working inside the building have been blamed by the householder or...

Fixing boxes to a tanked wall.

Please could you explain the construction? Your description suggests that a plasterboard wall will be built in front of a tanked solid wall and the plasterboard waterproofed on the back - is that right? The cables go between the two? Where is the sunken box section? A lot depends on your...

Advice on light switch wires and terminal blocks...

I'd suggest the OP does not try to use electrician's terminology, but does something like this: Get extension for suitable light in room Daylight Turn off main switch and all MCBs Unscrew fronts but do not remove any wires Draw not photograph the back of every switch showing connections...

    new light switch

Yes, asked before, but in different ways. Looking at the switch you'll see that each switch it is triangular(ish) in shape. You've two switches, side by side on the back of the face plate - facing in different directions. If it is in a squarish box imagine the triangles - with the left hand one...

Connecting Air Con Unit to Socket Ring Main

Is this the machine? If so the pictures show the rotary switch to the external unit and the help line was talking about the internal unit which could be fitted with a 13A plug so that isolation for cleaning would be foolproof (?). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxpjIUeHM_c

Help needed albeit not "ban all sheds "

Ah, slight misreading -I thought the OP had described the circuit served by the 15A fuse as power to sockets. Must go to specsavers. TTC -even I knew that :D , but it is quite common for householders to describe circuits as 'light' or 'power' and I've seen some old fuseboxes with exactly that...

Help needed albeit not "ban all sheds "

There's a thick red wire and a thin red one. Not sure where the problem lies. Thick = power = 15A.

    Washing machine, shower room question.

Electrically question answered, but you should consider air flow and condensation. The situation you're proposing will give hot wet air and cold surfaces linked via the top of the sub wall. I'd suggest stopping air movement between the two areas and maybe considering an extractor for the shower...

How do I prevent anyone turning off the wall double socket

Sparkwright's external socket with cover sounds easy and cheap. No doubt it is the "older" people who automatically unplug things. "Turn everything off" was the watchword until fairly recently as televisions did catch fire during the night, and, to be honest, whatever the instruction book says I...

    New wall light is dim

John said,"Even if there were a separate wall-switch, that surely wouldn't be arranged as 'two-way switching' between that and the in-fitting switch, would it? In any event, the OP only has one T&E feeding the fitting - so no strappers icon_smile.gif " It would if the original fitting used a...
