    Free Electricity

There's already a few companies in the states selling lamps that connect to the phone line as more people are ditching their land lines in favour of mobile technologies.

3 phase supply to domestic property!

Usually just older town houses (comes in handy when converting them to flats as you just stick one flat on each phase). Our house (1865) used to have a three phase supply, but we had 2 of them capped off and only use one now as paying for the three was pointless for our usage.

    Power failure alarm

The UPS would kick in and the alarm would give you notification that the power has failed and you should begin a shutdown of the equipment ;)

    Lighting Before Plastering?

Yeah, don't recess these fittings. Someone did in our previous house and when we decided to change the fitting half the ceiling came down too.

    Quote to rewire a flat-excessive?

One way to look at it; it will need a re-wire at some point (maybe not right away - I'm not qualified to say), but at the moment you say it's empty (guessing you haven't moved in?) so would you prefer the sparky to make a mess chasing walls, ripping up floors etc now and get the job done, or in...

Amp changing channels with light switch

Try changing the bulbs? We had a similar problem with some cheaper ones, changed them for philips genie's and not had a problem since (also remotes seem more responsive since changing the bulbs... coincidence?)

    adding another picture light

If you're going to chase out walls, why not just go horizontal from one fitting to the other?

    Broadband connection

Get a BT engineer out to check the line. If you've checked your equipment and tested with extension wiring disconnected then there's no point messing about as you've shown the fault isn't your side. We recently had a fault cleared (noise on the line, dsl sync loss - BT's online line checker...

    incredibly bright bicycle light

Maybe one of these bad boys, great bit of kit and light up the road nicely (also scares the crap out of car drivers when they just see this bright light coming towards them)

Adding a "built in" DVD player to a TV

Probably not as the firmware in the TV most likely won't have the ability to operate it. Just buy a small stand alond dvd player and bolt it to the back of the tv.

MCB on but no power in sockets

Now there's an idea... hmm... *wanders off towards utility cupboard*

    outside security light!

Check the instructions for the fitting, as most allow you to use a standard switch as follows: Switch off = light off Switch on = light on "auto" Switch off then back on within a few seconds = light always on

No no, they bodged it & quit.

    Freesat or Sky HD?

He will receive the FTA HD channels in addition to his subscription channels. This is why after upgrading your service to a HD box, sky installers will always first test using Luxe HD as 90% of the time the viewing card hasn't been updated to include the HD subscription. Try it, take your...

    Freesat or Sky HD?

Not true, anyone with any satellite receiver capable of receiving HD broadcasts can view the FTA channels (BBC, ITV, Luxe) - no subscription, viewing card etc required :)
