Self levelling compound over heating mats

The boards aren't actually as porous as I thought. I poured some water on a scrap piece (unprimed) and it sat there for ages so probably would've been ok!

Self levelling compound over heating mats

It's probably me just being a bit paranoid n over cautious but I've given it another coat of primer anyway!

Self levelling compound over heating mats

Hi guys. Thanks for the advice. Really appreciate it. I've laid the boards and got the mats down. Just about ready to do the SLC! I'm just a little concerned that I didn't put enough primer down on the boards! The tape on the matting is coming up a little in some areas and duct tape...

Self levelling compound over heating mats

I'm doing the tiling myself. 600mm x 300mm porcelain. I've done a fair bit of wall tiling but not done floor tiles before! That was another reason why I thought the SLC was best - 1. Coz it'll take up any errors levelling issues. 2. I can take my time with the tiling n not worry about...

Self levelling compound over heating mats

Well yes, that was the thinking. I'm just trying to weigh up all the options. The guy in Topps Tiles said it's not a good idea to put the SLC anyway because it creates another barrier for the heat to pass through. So I'm wondering if it is worth all the extra effort, especially for it to be...

Self levelling compound over heating mats

You mean 5mm is too thin on top of the insulation boards? That's what they recommended at the underfloor heating store. I've got the Prowarm XPS boards. If I did create a barrier over the matting with the adhesive foam to split it up, would it be easily scraped of the cables without damaging...

Self levelling compound over heating mats

Thanks for the replies guys. Not really a one person job then! I have been in two minds whether to forget about the SLC but I think it would be better with it. Some of the matting might still end up being mesh side down because of the layout. And obviously don't want to risk damaging the cable...

Self levelling compound over heating mats

Hi I could do with some advice about flooring, please. Mainly how to do the self levelling compound.... I'm hoping to get our kitchen/family room floor done this week. It's a pretty big area, about 36m2 of exposed floor space including utility room. My plan is to prime the...

    Replacing my electric shower

Thanks for your quick replies. Yeah, i couldn't really understand why the 30A fuse never blew! The house is only 20 years old so i pressume the rest of the wiring is ok! Although i was a bit surprised to find the cartridge fuse box rather than the modern circuit breakers. How would i know for...

    Replacing my electric shower

Hi, i'm doing the bathroom at the moment including replacing the shower. I've taken the old shower out (which does appear to be 9.5kw), and started looking at putting the new one in (definately 9.5kw). I'm not excatly an expert, but it seems that the existing wiring is only 6mm2 not 10mm2 (i...
