    House Sale - Electrics

An error which happens quite often. The electrical certificates should come direct from the electrician. The building control compliance document is sent by the registration scheme (NICEIC, NAPIT, ELECSA, BRE etc) and usually arrives with 4-6 weeks of work completion.

I agree and I am glad they don't write the clues for crossword puzzles (or do they for the Times? :) ) It makes me wonder about "any" logical thought process of the people who came up with such a system. To be fair it is possibly the result of "harmonizing" a range of different standards and...

Some more about the F in triangle symbol. Seems it is not IP rating as such. When a luminaire is provided with the symbol F , this denotes that it is suitable for direct mounting on normally flammable surfaces. Normally flammable surfaces are defined to include building materials...

Oh yes, that is true and they add nothing of real value other than making a weak attempt at relating certain docs to one another. I'm just looking at their document ENB3347-3 (control gear for lighting) now and it shows most if not all of the symbols The F in a triangle is related to IP...

John, correct on the intersecting circles It means that the product control (primary & secondary) can not (under reasonable conditions) connect together (short circuit) the 110 in the triangle is related to the construction requirements for electronic lighting control gear BS EN 61347-2-2...

KITCHEN LIGHTS NOT WORKING, advice please. Thanks

I am assuming the MCB at the CU is staying on now (not disconnecting) It is possible that one of the lamps has blown and damaged the dimmer switch. Easiest test it to replace the dimmer with a standard switch. Other than that you are probably looking at a wiring fault (open circuit) as a...

Can i use 3184yh flex in a lighting circuit?

Do you really want to protect 0.75mm flex with a 6 amp MCB? Do you really want to use flex wiring where the properties are unknown for the given application? 1mm or 1.5mm T&E cost pennies. Better to do it right.

    An interesting read

Sounds like they had too many people involved, one good electrician could have worked out the fault in a matter of hours.

    An interesting read

I think the service you are receiving is sub-standard but to play devils advocate - if (for example) you go to trading standards they would want to quantify what the shortfall is between what they (SP) are supposed to provide VS what they actually provide. They might argue that while there are...

Thanks, we have regularly done work in the area and looking just at the layout of the property the price you have been quoted is VERY competitive.

    Napit Assessment

Yes, only on the initial inspection do they test for competency for each "qualified supervisor" On the yearly visits they usually ask us to repeat at least one test per job (5 jobs) to show that what is recorded on the cert matches that of the actual circuit. That could be Zs or R1+R2 or R2...

    Napit Assessment

Thanks for that, I must admit I am amazed and somewhat disappointed that any of the registration organisations would allow commercial/industrial approval based upon seeing limited domestic work. I'm not getting at you but at the system. I certainly take on board that you had a full discussion...

    Napit Assessment

I see, thanks. The three jobs you showed are certainly representative of domestic work but does this mean that you can also promote yourself for commercial & industrial work and issue NAPIT certs for such work? Please don't think I am nit-picking, I am just interested in how other schemes...

    Napit Assessment

You can judge a persons competence by discussion of that there is no doubt and that counts for a lot. But you either have C&G2391 or you don't. 2391 is a pass or fail there is no graded result. EDIT, I may have misread your reply. So you have C&G 2391 but is your NAPIT membership full...
