    Rainwater soakaway size

you could ask your man why he's chosen not to use aquacell crates / attentuation cells - they're something like 95%+void - filling any hole with large pebbles is going to give you maybe 30% void if your lucky (at a guess). building control are quite human - you can ask them direct for their...

    Selco membership

they couldn't care less what you do for a living. it's very obvious that many of the people in there are public, but watch the prices - and remember it's all plus VAT. print yourself some headed paper off your pc and ask for a card.

    Uncle Bens

used to use the asda low fat sauces - they were delish. Uncle Bens rice - the microwave stuff - now there is something pretty disgusting about it - the flavour is off and it also smells a bit nasty....... or is it just me?

merc vito injectors, need a refurb

when my vito had the black death, i only had to replace one injector, but all the pipework needed replacing also - that's a merc parts store job. as for the injector, it cost about £130 or so at the time, so i went for the merc original part on that also - the refurb wasn't much cheaper...

    Demand EU referendum

thanks for the link, i did the fuel duty one while i was at it https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/347 you know a bunch of my friends when there was talk of us joining the euro were all keen on it - their reasoning was generally based on 'it'll make it easier going on...

    Bolt down Metposts

i'd always fasten down - timber twists and flexes. you can't easily fix them at a later date even if you can be bothered to, it's also a consideration of how tall your supporting posts are going to be

Whats the WORST customer you've ever had?

a guy i do some work for is like that - he reckons every trade is out to cheat him and he micro manages to the n th degree - trouble is he's often right. my worst customer would be the one who kept telling me what a good job i was doing and what a cracking good deal he'd got out of me (what i...

Had a prang, who's to blame?

mate of mine had an identical incident = signalled left to get into his drive, has to go wide to do this due to narrow driveway and brick piers, and a fella undertook him = the result was in his favour. but he had to engage a solicitor to get this result as his company wanted to settle for...

    water tank not filling up

more likely debris from the chewed pipe being washed into the float valve in the tank restricting the flow to the tank and so only filling the cylinder slowly. have you popped up to see how the tank is filling? this is assuming you have a vented and not mains pressure system of course :)

    Bolt down Metposts

extra rapid setting cement sets very fast - but you'll likely crack it if you're using expansion fixings the same day as it'll still be fragile . can you use a concrete in metpost? or have a look at screwfix products 66063 and 85498 (yes, i did look that up, my memory isn't that good...

    MDPE insulation

lagging is great, but in a prolonged cold spell the pipe can still freeze..... how deep can you bury it? can you run it under your floor internally? 750mm is what you're meant to do, but there's plenty of mains out there that are shallower than that with no issues.

    K-rend anyone?

with marmorit our guy uses a mesh that you skim over - it's tough stuff, but i couldn't tell you what it's called. i had k-rend on a newbuild a few years ago, lovely stuff, but mine had a rough finish - can it be applied as smooth as render? oh, and a minor crack did appear, the answer given...

    The future of British Society.

i agree with everything except population - to my mind it needs to sit at around 3 billion............. not a popular subject to broach i'd imagine, as we need a constant trickle of youth to take the place of the rest of us that age...... and i really have no answer as to how you would...

Counterfeit and Illegal Plugs and Leads

saw a real eye opener of a documentary on fakes a while back, i thought i'd seen it all until i watched that program. fresh eggs manufactured out of chemicals (and toxic with it) - why? because it was cheaper than keeping chickens.... and a village in china that specialises in a certain...

Risky To Rely On Builders/Letting Agents For Work?

imagine a builder who does and job, then goes bust - it happens a lot. imagine a builder who turns around and tells you he'll pay you when he gets paid. if he does. you can get burnt easy enough and i'm sure he will, but a nice broad customer base will cushion him. having written and...

Help needed with retaining wall and drainage!

well, if i'm understanding your situation right, then in your position i would: remove old wall, dig out a foundation (say 350 to 400 mm wide, having dug down to firm ground), set 9" hollow concrete blocks on the foundation and face with something atractive, or for lighter duty use medium...

    Underfloor heating advice

Assumption is one of those words we use when somethings gone badly wrong and we forgot to do, or left something to someone else to do. check your specs. in a low to mid value rental i'd probably just go with rads, but ufh is the way forward - even heat and it'll save the user money. it...

"A Society that believes in nothing?"

yes, deepest respect for Haroons father - quite a guy, from the way he talked about his son, he was also quite a guy. sadly i am unable to read the article as i'm having an unfortunate gastric reaction to it. but then the daily mail does that to me quite a bit.
