    Sunken manhole

most peculiar - sure the tarmac isn't heaving? pop the lid and run a tap, if it runs with water then at least you know it is foul, if no flow then you know it's surface drainage to the road or your soakaway

Plea for help with main water supply problem

water board left mains stoppy on did they? when you turn it off and back on, you do get a good few turns on it? you are getting not a drop right? a pipe shallow enough to freeze in a prolonged period, will take a long while to thaw - do you know where it runs? how deep? is it small...

How can I block off a soil pipe in the wall?

ok, got to wickes, buy a bag or premixed mortar, pack it out with that, slip in a brick or two to pack out the void, add more mortar, tidy inside, then tidy outside. if the house is rendered then use the mortar to render the patch - on a warm day, not now. why on earth did you not tell...

    Very Dangerous (looking back)

my next door neighbours kid in the early 80'z was a war nut. he went looking for bullets and stuff in the woods and so on. one day he found a big lump of metal - bomb like - took it home and cleaned it..... his mum came out and called the police of course............ he made the papers...

how do you cut pipes in a tight gap?

it does happen, gas is low pressure - maybe 28/1000 (28mb) of a bar above atmospheric, so it's exerting a low pressure. it's not unusual to have a gas pipe part leaving you looking at a poorly soldered joint. maybe the pipe you mention was fluxed, and the flux dried out and sealed it...

Heating circuit-can anyone identify this leaking valve pls?

stupids. you're so funny. haha ha ha.......... i've followed the thread as it happens, maybe you should reread my post and try to actually understand it. a hint - the key word was pedantry. nice attitude by the way.

I've seen the 250Q 240v one on Axminster for £160 inc, where have you seen it for £100 then? when i first saw them i was right up for one - then i saw the price. it's certainly dropped a lot.

Heating circuit-can anyone identify this leaking valve pls?

no, don't. if every post i made got that kind of snotty / picky reply, then i wouldn't bother with the board. the first 5 replies answered the ops question prefectly well, why turn it into a pedantry contest over whether something is obsolete or still in the bss catalogue?

    neighbour damaged my soffits

imagine your boundary at soffit height with no wood to fix on - they fit some timber to bridge the gap - a noggin. your council will respond to boundary disputes and complaints against neighbours. otherwise, have you considered having your soffits done? ;)

    Which electric chainsaw?

apart from the flex/noise/fumes etc, the only difference between an electric and petrol saw is the motor - if an average petrol is 2kw output, then a manufacturer can replace a petrol engine with an electric motor easy enough, but lets not kid ourselves that anything out of b&q will have the...

    neighbour damaged my soffits

    Pipe Benders

if i trashed my hilmors, i'd get the rothenbergers next time. a lass i know has a set and they do seem better than my hilmors. can't see me finding an excuse to replace them in the next decade though - they are pretty bullet proof.

Frozen apart mains stopcock joint - Picture

if you wanted to allow for expansion on say a long run of copper, you can remove a section of pipe and bridge it with an elbow, bend a 180 deg loop and another elbow on the other end, it's an interesting thing, but not really relevant in this instance. box it in with batten and...

    HEP20 vs Speedfit

must admit, after making the hep joint, i always unscrew it, visually check it and screw it back up again. it takes time, but i haven't had one fail yet.

    HEP20 vs Speedfit

most guys would want a days money to go out and do the connections, register it and take responsibility for it. i'd let your rgi hang & flue it as well. by the way, it's hep2o for me. haven't used much speedfit for years (when it was crap) but i'd imagine it is as good as hep now.
