    air admittance valve

fills the pan to the top - you have a partial blockage in the soil system fills the cistern to the top then it just needs adjusting i'm not sure quite what you were trying to get across to be honest ;) by valve, you mean the part that lets the water into the system right? the ball...

Patio Laid in Sep......cracks Picture Heavy

i do 2 or 3 patios every year. any patios i do are a minimum of 100mm T1 compacted, 30mm of mortar 1:5 as a continuous bed (not dabs) and semi dry pointe (the mix is damp and you force it in and then smooth with a margin trowel. the only time i have a slab move is if someone disturbs it...

    dropped kerb refusal

you used to see a large steel tube bolted to a smaller steel tube and dumped in the gutter to allow you to (yes i know, illegally) bump up the kerb. could you get away with such a cheeky move? anyway, has anyone else got one to set a precedent in your road or a similar one?

cut the pipe with a pipe slice and use plenty of towels, a bucket and a couple of tupperware containers to actually catch the water before it goes into the bucket. oh, and a couple of 15mm speedfit end caps to reseal just in case.

    Stopcock does not work

if you intend to remove the old tap, cut the olives off, polish the pipe and refit the new one, then buy a suitable 15 or 22mm speedfit cap. if your cans don't last long enough, at least you might be able to cap it while you nip out to find an electric pipe freezer :) if you haven't done...

    Stopcock does not work

if you are going to freeze it, i'd suggest hiring an electric freezer - more like £60. if the plug melts because you run out of gas while you're struggling to get the fitting on or go shopping cos you needsomething you don't have to hand, you'll be stuffed. either that or do it at 3am...

    Frozen Internal Mains Water Pipe

i'll assume your whole house is on mains and is not tank fed, it doesn't matter how quickly the ice melts within reason - copper is quite good at stretching, but you can't keep freezing it as eventually it will fail. i'd put a heater near it and let that play over it, or turn the water back on...

    stopcock

quite possibly, it needs altering i'm afraid - best do it before it's an issue, presumably the mains stopcock works (it is off the mains right?), in which case it should be a 5 minute job to sort it out. famous last words..........

Concrete ratio, how much cement is too much?

trick is to not over mix it, not make to too wet and tamp or vibrate to settle it properly - that way you make the most of the potential strength of the mix

    New train carriages

you need to be a bit carefull - 80% of UK toyota prduction is for export, they pay tax, buy a lot of parts and pay a lot of wages here. if hitachi start building trains, it won't just be for the UK market..... Let's just hope DeWalt don't start making trains.........
