    Quick roofing felt question

I wouldn't waste your time and just get your self a tarpaulin to cover over your roof to keep the water out till your mate gets back and does a proper job Cheers Dave

    PVC Flashing?

We use similar stuff called Metaflash(i think thats what it is) its ok and works well, we fit it just the same as lead for flashings. To be honest its more like glorified flashband with wire in it! Cant beat the real thing!. sure is right about the price though, although it tends to come in...

breathable roof membrane and valley gutters - what to do?

The only thing under lead that should not be used is the old F1 bitumin felt which the lead would stick to and stop it expanding and contracting. i see no reason why you cant use beather felt but would recomend using under lead fleece which allows the lead to expand and contract and cut the...

    Relaying roof - advice needed

im only guessing here but i would say a 3 bed semi with no felt membrane would be build in 1950 or before and as woody says if there over 50yr old tiles they have probably have had there day. As for taking the weight plain tiles (rosemary clay ) are actually heavier per m2 than say marley...

    Relaying roof - advice needed

To be honest re-using the tiles that havnt crumbled is a waste of time, replace the lot. The tiles sound like they have blown, so it will only be a mater of time till the ones you want to save will do the same! Replace with new plain tiles, the costs vary from clay being the best looking to...

Permission for Skips on public highways

As has been said i know most skip companys just charge you more to put it in the street, they normally ask you where its going before delivery. With scaffolding you do need a permit before hand if it goes on to a path, be careful because it can take a week or so. Cheers Dave

    Lead Flashing

Just one tip, we tend to use lead mate(grey coloured mastic) instead of a sand/cement mix to do the pointing of the lead, its flexable and will not crack and fall out like the mortar does. Hope this helps Dave

When to replace / repair ridge tiles?

If it ain't broke no need to fix it! I would say ask the roofer while he is up there for his opinion on the condition of the roof, if you dont believe him get another opinion! If the ridge will last as long as the tiles if not longer, if your worryed get his to give you a price to re-bed them...

How deep should lead flashing go?

You need to go about an inch in, and you hold the lead in place with wedges made from roll up lead strips. you can get especially made wedges(formed stainless steel) from your roofing supply shop which are very easy and quick to use but a little more expensive. Go to...
