    Shower Pumps

Does a shower pump have to be located below the shower it feeds? (Conventional vented system, two storey house, boiler/HW tank/shower on first floor, pump at ceiling hight downstairs). Want to fit another shower downstairs & another pump (or dual o/p one) in same location? Advice appreciated.

    Freezer circuit

A friend of mine has his freezer in his garage, and so, as he does'nt go out there every day, has a 8 watt high-E lamp on the same circuit, to monitor the power (visable through a window). Also usefull when he's away; neighbour can monitor without having to go in.

Economy 7 and removal of it?

As you have two meters, sounds as if these are from the early days of storage heaters (pre "white meter"). At that time, the off peak was advertised as "half price", and had (sometimes?) an afternoon boost. Later,(when white meters were introduced?), the low rate was more than half price, and...

    Landing light

Why not feed the pendant flex straight through the rose into the loft, clamp it to a joist, but with plenty of slack to allow the fitting to be lowered down for bulb changing? Use JB in loft for connection.

    Plug sockets

Off on a slight tangent : -- Some new houses are using the old 5A sockets as outlets for table lamps. Several per hall/lounge/dining room, all controlled by one switch (per room or per floor). Fed from a 6A MCB. Sometimes done instead of wall/ceiling lights. Anyone else come across this...

    connecting a generator

The Application note downloadable at : -- www.schneider-electric.ca/elit/digitalschneider.php?action=view&id=2325 was the best info. I could find on the net. some while ago. re. connecting stand-by generators. But note it is a Canadian doc., so their regs ("Codes") could be different to...

    Heat alarm

There are basically two types of Smoke detectors, Ionization & Photoelectric (sometimes called Optical). Ionization ones in a kitchen, or just outside a K. door will trigger when you overdo the toast! Photoelectric ones are less sensitive to that sort of problem. However, in my experience...

    weird lighting ring

BAS, there's nothing fundamentally wrong with wiring the lighting circuit as a ring, is there? Is it actually against regs?

    Hoover six express WM

This is taking ages to complete the cycle. eg : -- Put it on a 30 degree wool prog, on a mechanical timer with 1 hr. On period. When I returned the softner still had'nt gone in, and drum still had water in it. Water inlet pressure is ok, no blocked filter. Also happens on hotter progs...

(Low) Voltage remains when circuit switched OFF!

My hunch is your meter was measuring some RF signal, that your mates meter was'nt sensitive to?? Next time you have a microfortnight, repeat one of the measurements with a smallish capacitor across the meter.

    Cooker not heating up

I assume the heating element is working but not getting the oven up to temp? Has the oven got a fan?, is it working? If not working, then it's bearings are probably gummed up, hence no heat dist.,and the over temp cut out has done it's job?.

TV / Video RF aerial connection problem - very strange

I agree with JohnD that this is the best approach. However, if you don't have a splitter to hand, just feed the Ae. direct to the TV & see if it finds all the chan's it should (about 85 freeview IIRC for a full house). But note if you have an Ae. thats been up a few years, it's almost...

    Consumer Unit question....

If you look at www.residentiallandlord.co.uk/feature10.htm or www.landlordzone.co.uk/electricalsafety.htm They both say there is no legal requirement to have checks done on tenant c/o, but consider it advisable. I read from this that the landlord can then prove that he took significant steps...

    Gardtec Battery fault

If it's not the battery, then it could be the holder not gripping the fuse tightly enough, or slight corrosion there? If you have'nt a meter, you could test the battery on a car bulb, or one from a 12v house light?

    Generator

The Contract you have with your "electricity supplier" may have a clause insisting you advise them of a Genny installation, IIRC they used to in the days when the DNO was always your supplier. I always presumed that was so they could check your installation was properly isolated from their...
