    Tiling on a sandy wall

http://www.unibond.co.uk/unibond/pdf/pva.pdf There is a link to the unibond site providing technical specs of PVA. Feel free to read, no where does it state it is waterproof, it also states clearly it is for internal use only.

    Tiling on a sandy wall

Then feel free to use it if you're fine with it. What I'm trying to get across is, PVA isn't waterproof. Wickes generally sell their own brand products. And I have no need to phone them, I know PVA isnt waterproof, or provide a waterproof barrier. If they choose to market a different...

    Tiling on a sandy wall

Ahh right now I understand.... Because wickes seem to be the only retailler of PVA that claims to be waterproof, phone Unibond and ask them if their PVA will provide a waterproof barrier, in fact phone any of them and see what they say. In fact phone Wickes and get them to put in writing...

    Tiling on a sandy wall

http://www.thistothat.com/glue/pva.shtml http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyvinyl_acetate Feel free to read any of the above for a second opinion, then decide if what you are using is actually PVA or if you are in fact using it correctly.

    Tiling on a sandy wall

Lets deal in facts:- PVA is water soluble, it is also not waterproof even when set. If PVA is modified with polymers or Acrylics,( which can make the end product waterproof) then it is no longer PVA it should be described by another name which is relevant to what it's modifications are...

    Tiling on a sandy wall

It could be a polymer modified primer in whch case they are doing themselves no favours describing it as PVA as technically it's no longer PVA once the acrylic polymers are added to it. It becomes an SBR. But whatever has been added to it, it's used before any of the main manufacturers...

    Tiling on a sandy wall

Actually that's not true, company's will put labels on products until they are proved wrong. Is this Poly Vinly acetate or Poly Vinyl alchohol? It does make a difference. And you state it's waterproof, yet is must be water soluble to be able to mix in the situations you descirbe or it...

    Tiling on a sandy wall

Wickes PVA is recommended for use in showers by the manufacturer of Wickes PVA, there is no one who will sell you an adhesive that will not have a voided guarantee if you use this. (Ironically including Wickes who sell a rebranded adhesive). Wickes also sell low quality marble, on the box of...

    Slate & Underfloor Heating

Test the mat before you tile, seems obvious but it isn't done enough. I don't mean switch it on I mean take a resistance test with multimeter. Do not switch the heating for 28 days after you have completed the flooring. Although many adhesives are rapid setting, they still require 28 days...

Can anyone explain this statement to me

It's a fine example of someone who doesn't know what He's talking about, trying to sound like He knows what He's talking about.

    Ceraminc Floors

You could fit electric underfloor heating, I'm not sure what's available in the USA as this is generally a UK based site (you are still very welcome). Do a Google serch on a product called Warmup electric underfloor heating, this will give you an idea of what I mean. You then need to find...

Read my post on here with regards to unibond Specifically PVA). And expand on why you think it will help seal anything when it's actually water soluble?

    Bathroom antics

Personally I wouldn't touch granfix, I use Ardex BAL or Nicobond. Depending on the substrate and the product to be fixed. Also I'm not referring to places like Topps tiles, I don't class them as Wholesale TIle distributors, I do class them as Retailers. I'm referring to commercial tile...

    tiles falling off wall

Read the post on here I wrote about PVA (unibond). Don't use it. Also investigate the reason the tiles/plaster are falling off, don't just cover it all up again as you'll probably see it all happen again. These things usually happen for a reason.

    grouting mix

A quality grout will set far harder than sand/cement. Ardex C2 grey will be about £5 for an 11kg bag and you'll need maybe 7 or 8 bags for 125sq/m with a 5mm joint.
