Switching Fan / Lighting In Bathroom.

If the requirement for the fan is driven by a build up of condensation, then why not consider a fan with a humidistat control? something like this:- http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/ADICON15.html with either of these fitted inside:-...

    Earthing... yes another thread

Hi, Just wondering something. I have some spoons in my kitchen, in the event that the wall near my sink becomes damp and there is a faulty cable which could possibly make the wall slightly live then i make a cup of tea in an old enamel cup but the cup accidentally touches the wall which is...

Switching Fan / Lighting In Bathroom.

Hi Secure, I know this is a bit too late as you have a solution, but just out of curiosity:- You say that the shower basin/tray is to be raised to accomodate the pipe work, But is this just the floor directly beneath zone 1 or is the finished floor level defining the base of zone 2 to be...

    HMRC warning..

yep, all that wot he said. A different thought:- What do we think this warning/threat will do do the current operation of Part P notifications and then electrical safety as a whole? More hard done to sparks coffing up more money and being less inclined to stay on the radar? An...

What is the correct way to calculate cable size?

If, as you say, wish to pursue a career in electricals, it really wouldn't hurt tyo buy a copy of the regs and read it. All the information you need is contained within. As the regs changed at the beginning of the year, you might be able to go to fleabay/amazon or similar to find the...

    Moving Storage Heater

I'd suggest opening the heater and (carefully) removing the bricks inside before shifting the heater. Will probably end up being quicker and less chance of injuring yourself.

    inaccessible Junction Boxes

Hi, The whole hidden junction box theme has been thrashed out many times here before. Try using the search function with the words 'maintenance free' If you have had to rip the ceiling out to get the steel in, it would seem like a perfect opportunity to get rid of all those potential...

What is the correct way to calculate cable size?

lol, hello again Gig, I'm starting to get the feeling that the 'full rewire in 2013 when the kitchen is re-fitted' isn't really going to happen is it? It seems as though you missed an opportunity to ask your question to the spark who you should have called some weeks ago to rectify your...

Connecting gas bonding cable to old consumer unit (pictured)

Yep, i suppose it depends on what is said and who is listening. Maybe just saying 'i don't like pipe clamps on service sheaths' won't get a favourable response, but couple that with 'High Ze / looks unreliable / might fail / your property' might get a different reaction? Another one of...

Bathroom Fan Wiring - is it compliant?

BAS, I'm really quite surprised it took you so long to notice the glaring error in the diagram. Maybe your desire to argue with Holmslaw at any cost is affecting your ability to see clearly and think rationally?

Maintenance Free vs Maintained Junction Boxes?

Nope it isn't. I'm just slightly confused about what value you feel your comments (directed toward me) have and why you feel that you need to quote something i said and then seemingly go on to teach granny to suck eggs. I haven't been here so much lately, so maybe you could (in a nutshell...

Maintenance Free vs Maintained Junction Boxes?

Thanks for pointing out what BS7671 permits in relation to the JB's in question, but there wasn't really any need as i was already aware of this. However, I am slightly confused as to what relevance your later comments have in relation to the purpose of this thread?

Maintenance Free vs Maintained Junction Boxes?

Fair enough. -but again, just to clarify, I wasn't saying they were 'superior' or not as the case may be. As you can see from my earlier post, my comment was in disagreement with AndyPRK's suggestion that spring terminals are a new invention. IMO they have been around for quite some time.

    DIY new lighting circuit

If you want to save your self a day of fiddling, then a big headache, then a visit to your suppliers for a roll of 1 or 1.5mm, then another day of re-wiring, then a day of less frustrating fiddling, might i suggest you cut to the chase and get a more sensible size of cable to start with.

Maintenance Free vs Maintained Junction Boxes?

Hi John, Not sure why you quoted me here, but just to clarify, is you comment in support of my comment or a disagreement with it?

Connecting gas bonding cable to old consumer unit (pictured)

Ditto Ricicle, If in doubt, don't even take the lid off. Many of those old wylexs have an exposed bus bar, even the incoming tails can have exposed parts at the terminals. Also, i think you might have difficulty getting a 10mm into the earth bar. I don't think the terminal holes are big...
