    Dispute with Electrical installers

what do you mean? Who wants to see regulations about maintenance free JBs? whoever it is, they could try looking at 526.3(vi) I've tried reading both of your threads together and they don't really scan very well. Is my summary of the situation correct:- -You spoke to a guy on the...

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

If it is just a case of sort the immeadiate wiring issue and apply bonding, i would say its worth a days work and some materials to a spark. Applying a whole heap of guesswork, maybe a couple hundred?

    2-Way Dimmer Switch: Help Please

You already have the answer. From your first picture, you have identified all of the conductors. You say you have the fitting instructions, but Holmslaw has provided them for you anyway. Looking at your annotated picture and the fitting instruction in conjuction with each other is all you...

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

fair enough. Some people just don't want to listen. I'm sure many sparks here will probably sympathetic to this, as we get it a lot. My personal favorite is when you go into someones house as they just want a few bits, socket or two here, new switches there etc. Then you see a fuseboard...

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

A couple of good quality coffins probably cost more than a rewire. This year or next year, what difference does it make? The money still needs to be there somewhere, and if the're planning a kitchen refit, there must be some money in the pipeline somewhere. understood, its often difficult to...

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

yes, thats it. I really is an important safety aspect and should not be overlooked. Out of curiosity, how old is the house? If my family were in the house, I wouldn't be happy to leave it as it is. It may not be dangerous as you read this, but who can say what might happen tomorrow to...

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

are you aware of what 'bonding' is and why its important? From the picture, it is not apparent that the bonding is in place. Nothing wrong with tightening the screws, just so long as you don't tighten them too much (can cause conductors to break) Lack of CPC in lighting suggests that the...

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

Just had a second look at the pictures and now think you really should be calling a spark in sooner rather than later. Whilst hes there, ask him to check out your earthing and bonding is adequate aswell.

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

Can't really say just from looking where the error is. It may be as Plugwash says, theres a link bridging the circuits somewhere in the house. It could also be that what you have is the two ends of a ring split over two fuses. It will probably need a certain amount of disconnecting and...

cost to have new 17th edition consumer unit fitted, domestic

    Strange little situation... any thoughts?

It seems possible that the (assumed) ring circuit supplying the sockets and boiler has each end fitted to a different fuse. This really needs rectifying pronto as the next person who makes assumptions that the place is wired correctly might have a very nasty shock

    Help with fuse box problem

Oh, BTW. Just calling an electrician round does not mean you are going to be ripped off. Contrary to some peoples belief, not all tradespeople are out to empty the purses of Joe/Joanne Public. Why don't you ring 2 or 3 local sparkies, give them a brief idea of what you think the problem...

    Help with fuse box problem

Hi, slightly confused by your description - fuses don't trip, mcbs and rcds trip. What do you mean by 'the fuse is unusable now'? If the problem in question does relate to the immersion heater, it may be that the heater itself has some sort of problem. Does the immersion heater have...

Why is it always a mate ?

 That showers a beauty. Extra style marks for the orange speed fits I'd rate it as good as this one a found a while back At least this one had a good size cable feeding it, so it should prove to be a nice little hand-hold when you slip
