    MAGNACLEAN FILTER QUESTION

Every engineer knows the method of CH transfer through a plate HE. It's also commonly used abroad where open vent boilers can be linked indirectly to sealed systems. It's unecessary in the OP's case and another example of something you've read for the first time a thought you'd try to be clever...

    MAGNACLEAN FILTER QUESTION

I'm talking about the water-water HE which is far more commonly affected by debris. If the OP's system is cleaned (c/w Magnaclean), the primary gas-water HE is no longer at enough risk to go to the lengths you're suggesting for an 18 year old combi.

Electric Heated Rail/ Radiator in Airing Cupboard

Now that your airing cupboard is a boiler compartment you can't really use it to store combustibles. Furthermore adding heating to the space is not advisable either.

New boiler needed: combi vs standard?

Maybe, but not for those reasons, Britain is probably the biggest combi market because of price. France are 80% electric, Italy have recently changed back to district heating, Spain is using more solar and Northern Europe are moving ever more towards renewables. Meanwhile back in the UK, you...

New boiler needed: combi vs standard?

There are plenty of complaints with all brands. Your favourite makes sell next to f/all by comparison so can't be properly assesed for failures. There have been many bi-thermic type combis sold and where some give increased reliability they can furr up easier. They're not really better or worse...

New boiler needed: combi vs standard?

As a retired design engineer you should've noticed that the days of bespoke components in combi's are long gone. The extra paid for top brands only guarantees a well advertised badge, scores of suits and hundreds of engineers on the road burning fuel unnecessarily. Any real quality/reliability...

New boiler needed: combi vs standard?

No that's the reason they do like them. What they don't like is having that call on a Sunday or over Xmas if it packs up and the customer has nothing. Of this many people have many years experience. But as you have no practical experience, Drivel, it won't apply, hence your ill-informed...
