    Low Energy Garden Floodlighting.

I have the first one. It's probably not quite as bright as an equivalent 150W halogen bulb, but costs a quarter the amount to run. Also the light has a slightly blue tint (I'd prefer a yellowy bulb). The PIR on it works well, you can adjust the sensitivity and timer.

    Rad not warming up

Yeah, I'm slowly giving up hope on it being an "easy" solution. Is your hunch that this is sludge related, or perhaps something to do with the system being unbalanced?

    Rad not warming up

When I flushed the rad with a pressure washer - mostly clear, occasionally lumps of black sludge followed by a small amout of black water. From the pipes while I was changing the valves - looked clear to me.

    Rad not warming up

Just done a bit more reading up on it... would there be any advantage to adding some additive to my system (X800?) and running it for a week to see if that clears the sludge.

    Rad not warming up

I drained the system (was swapping the valves over) so there wasn't a massive gush of water. Some water gurgled out of one of the pipes, and the other pipe had water sitting at the top of it. It didn't smell or look stagnant. Not sure if this detail is relevant, but this rad is on the top...

    Rad not warming up

Done it already mate, didn't seem to make a difference. Is there a minimum time I should leave the others off for? I probably had the system running for an hour before my wife started moaning about the cold...

    Halogen lamps in bathroom.

I literally have nothing better to do tomorrow morning and it help clear out the plasterboard odds and ends i've accumulated in my garage.... :D

    Rad not warming up

Thanks for the reply stem. I tried that, no luck. I took the rad off, cleared it out with a pressure washer, tapped it with a mallet to loosen the sludge, pressure washed it again, until the water was completely clear. I then reversed the TRV and locksheild and filled up the system. This...

    Halogen lamps in bathroom.

What would you build the enclosures out of? Plasterboard, screwed together with the edges sealed with silicone? I ask as my bathroom has 5 downlighters and the insulation has had holes ripped around each light. Each light currently has an LED bulb so gives off next to no light, but at some...

    Rad not warming up

Hi mate, it was definitely power flushed with a power flushing machine and with sludge removal chemicals. The rads were taken off after that so the plasterer could skim the walls and his labourer flushed the rads a second time with a hose. there was still some gunk in the rads when they were...

    Rad not warming up

Thanks for the reply. The system was powerflushed for a few hours after the new boiler was installed. When the rads were taken off for the plastering, they were hosed through. Do you think it's worth using a pressure washer to properly blow the rad out instead?

    Rad not warming up

We've recently had our CH system changed from a back boiler to a modern condensing boiler (with an unvented cylinder for the HW). The existing pipework for the radiators is apparently a single pipe system - there are flow and return pipes going to the boiler, but they then deviate into...

    ptfe tape

My plumber uses a wrap or two of PTFE on all his compression joint threads. 30+ years experience, plus does teaching. Sounds like Naz may know him

    Adding to a radial circuit

Yep, brand new fully RCD protected split load board. The socket is an afterthought as I'd worked with my sparkie to get every socket and circuit where I wanted them, and had just started thinking about where to terminate my data connections before VM install my broadband on Friday. And glad...

    Adding to a radial circuit

Hi, I currently have a 16A radial circuit which goes directly from the CU to a socket round the back of the (wall mounted) TV. There's nothing else connected to this radial, so the draw is minimal (250w or so for the TV). The single socket is wired in 2.5 T+E. I would like a socket to be...

    Cable labelling - tips?

+1 for a Sharpie marker. Writes on anything, doesn't rub off (even when buried in plaster), plus you (or anyone else working on the same site) don't have to decipher any codes - "downstairs lighting" or "floor 1 ring" should be self explanatory

    Is this a good quote?

Fair enough... I've literally just changed my bathroom & downstairs toilets to pull cords. I often leave a bathroom with slightly wet hands (wiping them on your jeans only removes so much water) and pulling a cord 5 feet away from the switch seems safer

    Removing downlighters without destroying ceiling

Not all 240v lights need earthing. These are not earthed and nor are these.

    Is this a good quote?

Interesting... are you removing the pull cord and having a switch put outside the room instead? I've just done the exact opposite so I'd be interested in your reason for going the other way :)
