How to secure a toilet to the floor?

Did the same job myself recently. You need to put the toilet in position and draw around where the base sits, then mark on the floor opposite to the holes in the sides. Remove the toilet and join up the hole lines. Next you will need to measure how thick the walls of the base are, position the...

    grohe concetto mixer tap

I have bought the above and it comes with solid chrome 10 mm tails attached. I also ordered some 10mm flexible hoses not knowing the tap came with tails already fitted. I would prefer to use the flexi's but there doesn't seem to be enough room inside the tap for them and I can't see how they are...

    washing machine isn't working!

If the drum isn't spinning the probable cause is either the motor or the drive belt. The belt may have come off the pulley or broken. If the belts ok check the motor has power to it, if it has either the motors dead or the motors carbon brushes need replacing.

    Drain blocked with mortar

Don't know what went on there!!! I don't know technical terms for drains etc is there any picture of gulleys anywhere, the best way I can describe it is a 2' long bottle trap. Has anyone had any experience of the drain unblocking pipes that can be attached to pressure washers.

Thanks for the replies. Hear what you saying spark 123 but to go with my 16th edition qualification I have over 20 years experience which I have picked up along the way as a maintenance engineer out of interest. Industrial Electrics

Does anyone know which qualifications are needed to work on industrial electrics, is there a minimum legal requirement. I was informed in a previous job that an electrical qualification is required but not a specific one, hence as 16th edition is the quickest and cheapest to achieve that is why...

Hoover washing machine makes dirty greasy marks on washing

Are the bearing noisy! I recently replaced the drum bearing on my hoover washing machine due to them being very noisy. I noticed when removing the bearings that the grease from them was all over the back of the drum. However the wife didn't mention there being any grease on our clothes etc.

    Noisy bearings

My Hoover quattro system 1300 washer dryers drum bearings have started to get noisy. Is it possible to replace the bearings or is it time to get a new machine. I've had a quick look and It looks like the whole drum assembly will have to be removed then separated to get access to the bearings...

    Cables too short.

Rather than go to all that trouble is there enough wire poking through the ceiling that you can use crimp connectors on, you only need about 25mm or so to get the crimps on or alternately you could use soldered joints covered with heat shrink.

    kitchen lighting dilema.

Any specific reason or just personal choice. The 240v /12v transformer is feeding 4 led lights so a very low load so does the neutral need to be switched. The reason I would like to go with 2 gang 2 way light switch is I think it would look neater than 2x 2pole switches but of course I want to...

Sorry forgot to mention I already have the light fittings which are 6 x triangular 240v low energy and 4 x12v led with transformer. I think my idea is sound apart from is it ok to switch just the 2 live feeds using a 2 gang 2 way light switch which would be the neatest/ easier idea or should I...

Wifes changed her mind as usual and has decided we need lights in the display cupboards in our new kitchen and she would like to be able to switch them on independantly. I had already spurred off the ring to switched fused spurs in the 2 areas where we were just going to have undercabinet...

    led undercabinet lighting

I had already emailed them but their response was slow, anyway they just got back to me and they say total 1.5 watts which I think is way to low as a working light so I've gone for 7w cfl lights of the same design. I guess led lighting is just for fancy and not mean't to be used as a working light.

    led undercabinet lighting

Anyone have any experience of this type of lighting. I recently bought some led triangular undercabinet lights but they only had 5 led's per fitting and were very dim so I took them back. Will 21 led fittings be bright enough the advert says fitted with g4 1.3watt led lamps does this mean 1.3...

    Undermount sinks

I planning on having granite worksurfaces soon and wondered how undermounted stainless steel sinks are supported. Is it simply a case of wooden supports in the cupboard beneath or something more sophisticated.
