    Smart thermostats everywhere!

Ive never seen an installation of nest, but would it not be possible to extend the wiring from the boiler to the base and site the base in a room upstairs to make access easier?

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

With the short responses to my disected post, I don't know what you know. Just giving my impression and opinion of Evohome based on my experience as a consumer using it, and comparing to a previous single thermostat installation (albeit an older inefficient one). I can't speak with any...

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

As people will simply cough up for an additional controller, and it would take some engineering on their part to prevent double messages etc from any repeater then I can see why there isn't one. However as the system arguably delivers greater efficiency the larger the install, then it seems an...

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

I can agree with the range extender opinion, it really is daft that they dont make and haven't since made a device to resolve this. Other Zwave or mesh network devices look to resolve this problem and I would think if they ever did an Evohome Version 2.0, this would go the same way to resolve...

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

Ive had Evohome for quite some time now and for us it works very well. The only real issue it has thrown up for myself is range, our property is fairly large, but its the fact it is spread out (wide but shallow) with many solid walls. As the boilers are at one end then positioning the...

    Smart thermostats everywhere!

If you are going to invest a fair chunk of money into "smart" heating, then my recommendation would be the Evohome system. Admittedly this is somewhat more expensive than the simple replacement "smart" thermostats, but in my opinion a lot more flexible and a lot more likely to pay for itself...

ceiling rose & junction box questions

Thanks, though unfortunately I didn't consider this level of automation at the time of the rewire, if I had, then wiring back to a central location would have been number one priority. However, its all in now, house decorated, carpeted and an easy retrofit is really the only option I have. I...

ceiling rose & junction box questions

Can anyone advise if a celing rose type cable layout is mandatory with a new install or rewire, or at least do the junction boxes need to be easily accessible (i.e. no punching holes in ceilings or lifting carpets? The reason for my question is that I'm embarking on fitting remote switches to...

    Chainsaw Training?

Ive never had an accident using one, but as said above they really do feel like the most dangerous tool in the world. Although Im able to handle one, I dont really enjoy it. I'd rather take ten times longer with an axe and reward myself with a chip butty or something else unhealthy for the...

Home automation - To replace radiators or not?

Im running Evohome, and the only issue I have is the range on one controller to a couple of the radiators, but thats because the house is quite wide. Other than that Ive found it excellent, and ceratinly a lot more efficient than turning on the entire upstairs or downstairs at once using a...

Texecom - forcing user to use proximity tag

Hi, Bit of a strange one, but Im hoping somebody has come across it before. Ive experienced the following on more than one occasion. 1. User sets the alarm using the proximity tag and leaves the house. 2. Return home, and as the keys were still in the car (other half getting kids out), I...

Hump in floor, how best to tackle?

Lol. It's actually new flooring, still chipboard though and although not the best, as it's sat on 400mm joists (themselves 70mm wide), it's pretty sturdy with no creak or bounce and been down a year. I've taken a portion out with the sander and while still not level, it's better and it's near...

    Honeywell Evohome System

If theres no zone valves, then yes I would tend to agree with your first point that a proper bypass is required. As to the second point, I am clueless on that. Im goping down the route of a Low Loss Header (when my plumber can be ar$ed to get back to me), in order to alleviate the overrun issue.

    Honeywell Evohome System

Are there zone valves in the system? If so, then the diverter valve on the last rad wont help will it? My understanding (and experience with my own evohome) is that once demand stops from all HR92's, the system will also close the zone valve.

Hump in floor, how best to tackle?

So, while prepping a floor ready for carpets going down this week, I discovered another issue left behind by our builder. There are two "humps" in the floor. Starting at the skirting/wall and radiating our about 600mm or so in a semi-circle. I believe these have been caused by not chopping...

    Texecom programming help

I can see the Leds (green) clear as anything in the day. The strobe is actually hard to see over the Leds! Will try the different config on entry exit see how it works. Will probably get an odyssey X as the main bell box and shift this one to another place.

    Texecom programming help

Yep sorry, exit time is common. I'm needing to set this zone exit time longer as it's a garage and need time to get to car, open automatic door, drive car out and close the door afterward before its set. I suppose I could just have a common exit time that meets the needs of this zone and keep...

    Texecom programming help

Thanks Mark, problem is I want entry and exit times to be different on that zone. I can see that exit time can be adjusted for two different zones, but they share a common entry time.
